Spot Play: DAWNING DREAM (1st)

Race 1

(6) DAWNING DREAM was saved the entire mile and finished up with trot last time. Driver Tim Tetrick knows her a bit better now and he elects to stick here. (4) INVESTOR VOLO only needs to stay flat to have a chance against this bunch. (8) DRAMA FREE makes his second start since August and has early speed. (7) STIRLING BULLET was probably a bit better than his last line looks.

Race 2

(3) JUST MAKE BELIEVE returns from hiatus with Lasix added and now on a mile track. Against this awful group, that 1:55 1/5 winning mile at Mohawk last year sticks out. (1) NEWSBOY MORIARTY gets Gingras in the bike this week and is immediately eligible to improve. (5) CATALYST seems like a player; albeit an uninspiring option.

Race 3

(3) DAVE BRIGGS was handled with care after breaking in his recent qualifier. This colt did finish with trot and could be worth a try if the price is reasonable. (1) DOT DOT DOT CASH is racing well now and should be forwardly placed. (3) GLOWNGOLD qualified pretty well but unless her odds are high, I’ll watch one start. (6) LAUREEN has won three straight but got away with soft fractions last time.

Race 4

(1) YES YOUR MATTJESTY is sharp enough to win and now picks up Tetrick. (4) LETTHEROCKBEGIN looks like more of an exotics player than on top, but if things go his way, I wouldn’t be shocked with a win. (6) TIDEWATER TEDDY has early speed and was Gingras’ choice.

Race 5

(4) B L CLASS ACT has a couple of starts under his belt now this year. This looks like a good spot for him to step up. (2) ROCKETPEDIA drops down for Ron Burke/Gingras. (9) HELIOS would have won last week if he didn’t get rough in the stretch. This horse is impossible to bet unless he offers big value. (10) PAISLEY has early speed and should be considered.

Race 6

(4) PENN TURBO TED has early speed and has proven to be right at home against this caliber of horse; narrow edge. (9) MCRUSTY was probably claimed with this series in mind. Barn has done well here in the last week or so and Miller chose this guy. (3) TAMAYO has won 15 of his last 38 races; must consider. (10) YOU BET YOUR GLASS is plenty sharp.

Race 7

(6) BOILER BOB THE QB comes into the Survivor series this year with better form than when he swept both legs ahead of a second-place finish in the final. Don’t sell this guy short despite the four week gap since he last raced. (9) WINDSONG GORGEOUS comes off a much improved effort and figures to take a lot of beating. (5) MATTADOR D wasn’t given much opportunity when racing just five days ago. Don’t be shocked if he brings a big effort tonight.

Race 8

(1) SPENDER HANOVER drops down and should take this field to task. (5) JOEY JOOKISS rallied nicely last time. (8) RELENTLESS DREAMER made a nice uncovered move last week.

Race 9

(5) ABS ATTACK should make an easy lead and looks as good as any in this mostly dull group. (2) BLUE FIN drops down upon arrival and gets a better post to work with. (10) MCSTRAIGHT has some form and early zip, which he’ll need starting from post 10.

Race 10

(1) PTS BOOMERANG drops down from the C-1 to C-2 level for a good trotting barn. She stands out on paper, but if this mare falters, it is anyone’s race to win. (8) PROSPECT was a solid second last week. (11) BLUEBIRD KIDSQUEEN is certainly racing well now. (7) JC MIK MAC JILLIO comes off a decent mile but loses Gingras to my top choice.

Race 11

(1) BUCKEYE IN CHARGE found his mojo last week with a strong first-over effort. Let’s look for an aggressive try from the pylons. (2) YANAYANOMENOW hails from a good barn and arrives in form. (3) GRITTY MILLIE BOY has been right there each week. (6) OK FERRARI drops down to the bottom condition level and has no excuses for not improving.
