Best Bet: CITY HALL (6th) Spot Play: LAUXMONT CAPRI (9th) MEET STATS: 54 - 176 / $298.50 (-$53.50) BEST BETS: 8 - 14 / $27.30 (-$.70) Race 1 (2) TOSS CARTWRIGHT was done in by a slow start when facing a better group last out. Top amateur Kleinhans is in the perfect spot to make something good happen. (7) DNIEPER showed some life last week. I wouldn’t be opposed to rolling the dice with him at 15-1 or so. (3) ARUBA VACATION doesn’t appear to have much early speed to his inside and should be in a good position to achieve success. (10) ANGEL ASSAULT is another with early zip, but she is stuck in post 10. Can Davis get her to the top without working hard? Race 2 (1) CASA MIASA comes down from Saratoga in form for a barn that seems to be heating up judging by last weekend. (8) CHARMING HILL goes for four straight. Considering the outside post, I’m inclined to bet against as the odds-on chalk. (2) FIRE N DIAMONDS had no shot from post eight last time. Her prior try in this class was solid. Race 3 (6) KEYSTONE ACE has enough form that he stepped up to the winners over class and finished second at Saratoga. I see no reason to avoid him here with a capable amateur in the bike. (4) SOUL TRAIN was over his head in a normal condition race and now is back facing a similar group to those he defeated two starts back. (5) NO RECESS parlayed a perfect trip into a lifetime best mile last week. Race 4 (3) PRINCE OF MINTO became a new horse with Lasix added. Against a formless field like this one, I’m staying on this guy. (4) TIDQUIST picks up Brett Miller this week; maybe he can wake him up. (9) PAINITE drops again this week. Sooner or later he’ll find the winner’s circle. Race 5 (6) ORCHESTRA BLUECHIP gets some class relief and I’ve been mostly impressed with the way driver Eric Carlson has performed with his time in the bike here. (2) DUNESIDE LIFE shouldn’t get parked out or have to work too hard early to make the front this time. (5) ENERGIZER IVY has been racing well in Saratoga and seems like a fit with this bunch. (1) MOJARRA HANOVER could be handled aggressively from the pylons. Race 6 (5) CITY HALL had bad cover and no shot at winning on December 16. This guy loves it here and I love his chances of visiting the winner’s circle. (4) TEMPSTER HANOVER blew out a huge mile while down in class last time. If he comes close to that again, he’ll be tough. (8) ARSENIC has been facing solid foes at Saratoga and fits in this class nicely, but this NW5100 came up a bit tougher than normal. (7) CHIP WALTHER draws in a few posts this time and could find some early speed. Race 7 (6) MAJOR WAR gets class relief and a driver change. He’ll be marching down the road here and I think he’ll get to the wire in time. (3) THE ROCK was flat after many months on the shelf; could show more here. (9) APOLLO SEELSTER has a string of bad efforts from outside posts. On paper he is fast enough and could be a viable longshot. (7) YO CHEYENNE ROCKY comes out of the same race as the top pick and actually finished ahead of him, but is stuck outside now. Race 8 (4) YANKEE ARTILLERY drew an outside post and took plenty of air in his first start for the new barn. Against a somewhat suspect field, I’ll give him another shot. (1) MAY I CRUISE WEST seems likely to be the favorite and is certainly sharp. (7) WELLWESAID closed well for the win at this level last time out. (5) FLY’N WITH ROYALTY has the early speed to gain command early and he could be tough if left alone. Race 9 (1) LAUXMONT CAPRI gets class and post relief after racing evenly last out. Veteran is every bit as fast and sharp as the rest of this field. (6) BRUCE’S MAGIC was never put in play and raced evenly on Saturday. If he is sent to the front, watch out! (8) WHATAORSE is another capable of leaving hard off the gate and he rarely throws in a complete dud. (10) URBAN RENEWAL has been keeping decent company out of town. If A Nap can work out a trip this guy has a shot. Race 10 (1) HOME JAMES doesn’t make me want to run to the windows, but I think he’ll be close to the action and has excuses for recent failures. (2) IDEAL SON returns to the scene of his best career mile. (7) ABBEYLARA raced OK against a tougher group last time. (6) IDEAL LEGACY A chased a monster and held for second a week ago.    [DRF HARNESS NEWSLETTER: Sign Up for the FREE DRF Harness Newsletter. Fresh content and insights delivered each Thursday.]
