CHAMPIONSHIP MEET STATS: 105 - 314 / $561.90

Best Bet: CHECK ME OUT (3rd)     Spot Play: VEAL MARSALA (11th)

Race 1

(5) EVENING JOB raced well while losing to a sharp foe last week. I’ll give him the narrow edge in a pretty evenly matched group. (1) BLUE CLAW never seems to win for me but certainly fits nicely at this level. (7) ARDUOUS lures Tetrick.

Race 2

(7) TIME TO ROLL really doesn’t face much tonight. There is no excuse for him to lose. (3) VERDAD had a tough trip last time and held well. (1) SHAKERATTLENROCK beat the former by going down the road last week, but the track was playing well for speed. (6) ROLLNLIKEABIKSHOT looks like a major question mark. Perhaps he is this good.

Race 3

(3) CHECK ME OUT would have been competitive with the boys. She should crush this group. (2) HOLIER THAN THOU could be peaking at the right time. (7) FOR A DANCER is perfect in six starts this year.

Race 4

(1) PERSONAL STYLE has been close in most of her recent effort. Yankee Glide-sired filly has ability and it is time for trainer Nifty Norman and driver David Miller to loosen the screws a bit. (4) WIN MISSY B will gun to the front and prove tough to beat. (3) MAVEN is the logical chalk in here after consecutive wins by an average of eight lengths. Those spots were much easier.

Race 5

(4) UNCLE PETER remains at the top of my list to win the Hambletonian. That said, he will have to be on the top of his game to get past this week. (1) BANKER VOLO was either locked in the pocket with trot or wasn’t depending on who you speak to. Either way, he appears to be this good. (5) MAGIC TONIGHT has been a fringe player thus far. Perhaps Brennan can shake this guy up.

Race 6

(6) KNOWS NOTHING faces what looks like the toughest of the three Hambo eliminations. In a close-knit field like this, with only three spots in the final up for grabs, I have to assume there will be plenty of action. That pace scenario should play right into this guy’s wheelhouse. (4) BEER SUMMIT has done good work from on and off the pace. I like that versatility. (3) GUCCIO could be the most gifted of the group but is also the most immature on the track; tough call. (2) STORMIN NORMAND has never finished worse than second in his career.

Race 7

(4) PIROUETTE HANOVER hasn’t been the same horse since the beginning of June, but is as talented as any in here. I’ll roll the dice and hope for a rebound. (8) ROCKAROUND SUE is clearly sharp. She might not be the fastest but should be a major player. (1) SARANDON BLUE CHIP can’t seem to get her act together. You know she can fly but have to accept the likely risk of a break.

Race 8

(4) GYM TAN LAUNDRY wasn’t bad last week but is clearly at his best when rolling along on the engine. Brennan jumps in the bike this week and the directions have to be, ‘go fast and win.’ (9) LITTLE BROWN FOX made a name for himself last week with a sizzling mile; one to beat. (6) MARKET SHARE was stacked up behind cover in a slow race but came home with good trot. If they mix it up on the front, he is your horse. (7) ARCHANGEL is having a fine year but takes a big step up tonight.

Race 9

(1) GREAT VINTAGE posted a huge effort last week and might just be able to handle the class rise. (4) BIG BAM RAY gets Tetrick back in the bike. He hooked up with this guy three starts back to set a lifetime mark of 1:49 4/5. (3) MELVYN is 25 for 41 lifetime in the money; had pace in recent races. (2) OSCAR OSCAR raced well last time but isn’t as sharp as he was earlier in the year.

Race 10

(4) HURRIKANE KINGCOLE went a blistering 1:47 3/5 mile here two weeks ago and is far and away the horse to beat in this short field. (1) PANTHER HANOVER was plenty impressive in his last start and has yet to lose this year; class test. (2) BRENT MONTANA scooted to a career best mile last time; improving? (6) SIMPLY BUSINESS is still searching for that elusive first win of the year.

Race 11

(5) VEAL MARSALA drops down, draws well and should be headed for the front. (3) IDEAL MATTERS broke and still won last time. Impressive! (7) THE POKESTER also gets class relief and hails from a good barn.
