Spot Play: BUCKEYE IN CHARGE (4th)

Race 1

(9) FIRST IMPRESSION won by open lengths last week and faces a similar bunch. (10) MAMBO ITALIANO is the only other one in this field that seems worth playing. Miller did choose here over my top choice. (1) AREZZO HANOVER has a shot if he feels like behaving tonight.

Race 2

(1) JET AIRWAY qualified back nicely after the miscue in Canada against Sire Stakes company. This looks like a decent spot. (8) IDEAL MAGIC sprinted home in 54 4/5 in his last qualifier. This Tony Alagna trainee seems to have ability. (4) ALWAYS B MIKI looked good at first asking but takes on two more interesting foes.

Race 3

(5) TALKING BLUES has been rallying nicely against more difficult competition lately. (6) MINDSET broke against some strong colts at Yonkers last time. Last time he was here, he cruised to an easy score. (4) ALEXAS JACKPOT is an interesting shipper.

Race 4

It is hard to love any horse in this field, but (6) BUCKEYE IN CHARGE has proven himself multiple times at this level and looks like a standout for me at any price above 5-2. (10) HANG TEN moves into the Burke barn but drew poorly. (1) DOUBLETROUBLE has been better lately; worth using. (4) DVCFLYINGFRENCHMAN was short after a seven month layoff; tighter now?

Race 5

(2) SOMEPLACE SPECIAL blew away weaker last week. This field is more accomplished, but I’ll stay here regardless. (10) OLDE TIME HOCKEY is clearly the best of this group, but I don’t see them going all out from post 10 for $17,500 when he usually races for much more. (1) LETS ROCK TOGETHER is a steady short who tends to hit the board.

Race 6

(6) MAVEN has yet to lose this year and this doesn’t look like the most difficult spot she has seen. (4) BLUFF has been on a nice roll against lesser. She has early speed and can be involved. (10) CHECK ME OUT is a classy mare making her first start as an older competitor. I respect her ability but can’t back her from post 10 off somewhat so-so qualifiers. (5) WIN MISSY B needed her first start and could be better now.

Race 7

(5) ON THE RADAR spent a long time on the room last week and deserves another shot. (3) MIGHTY YOUNG JOE comes off an even try. Has a good shot if kept closer. (1) LONG LIVE ROCK has speed and the cones.

Race 8

(1) BLUE STRIKE faces an abysmal group and gets my hesitant nod. (5) TYS A BIG STAR has probably been facing better than this field; using. (6) GET JAZZED hails from a barn that has done well here earlier in the meet.

Race 9

(1) CULLENS BLUE JEAN raced okay last week considering he missed a month of action. Expect him to take charge from the inside and control the action. (5) BENNS SUPERMAN rallied nicely last time. (6) BLADE RUNNER & (8) GO GO RAIDER figure to be involved at least in the exotics.

Race 10

(9) CORKY BARAN wasn’t bad from post eight at Yonkers on Monday. This is a sweet spot and perhaps he can relive some of his past glory. (5) KAUFMAN HANOVER is down in class this week and figures to be handled with assertively. (7) SEEK THE DRAGON makes his second start on Lasix and moves in a few posts.

Race 11

(4) BOLERO ANDREW couldn’t be any sharper than he is now. I’ll take a shot against this slightly tougher bunch. (5) ALL SPEED HANOVER tried to come from off the pace on a night when speed was golden. (6) ERLE DALE A was probably against better foes last week.

Race 12

(7) RELENTLESS DREAMER finally drops back down to the C-2 level and finds a field he can sweep from near the back. (1) ALLAMERICAN APACHE raced well when last seen at this level. (10) MR DENNIS ships back to the Meadowlands for a barn that can wake them up in a hurry. (3) BOBJACKS ANGLE A should be along for a nice share.

Race 13

I have absolutely no opinion on this race. For no reason other than the record books, my picks are: (7) BIG PUFF DOGGIE, (2) LIFESONG and (5) MACH MY WORD.
