CHAMPIONSHIP MEET STATS: 13 - 47 / $69.20

Best Bet: PIROUETTE HANOVER (1st)      Spot Play: BLADE RUNNER (3rd)

Race 1

(4) PIROUETTE HANOVER got the race she needed two weeks ago and should be ready to roll against this group. (7) ROCKIN BELLE ships in for a good barn and did prove herself with a good mile here last year. (5) CHILDS PLAY has a longshot chance with a good trip.

Race 2

(3) IDEAL CHAMP may be second best to (4) A ROCKNROLL DANCE, but he does have a conditioning edge and the price will be right. The latter is expected to be one of the top 3yo pacers this year. (7) ROCKWEILLER faced a killer last week and doesn’t get any favors this time around.

Race 3

(7) BLADE RUNNER gets a good deal of class relief. The $15k claimers are worlds tougher than this NW $4,000 event. (4) THANKS FOR STOPPIN showed some life up the cones last week. (1) POKER CHAMP moves from post 10 to the rail; can improve.

Race 4

(2) BABE PER VIEW was ambitiously placed in the Courageous Lady at Northfield in her first start of the year. She chased a killer in American Jewel in qualifying action. I can see her stepping up in a field with some questions. (6) ROCKAROUND SUE probably needed her last race. Brian Sears chose here over (5) BLACKJACK PRINCESS, which is a good example of what I wrote about in my blog about when a driver’s choice will sway me to using a horse. The latter will certainly be leaving and could take them a long way.

Race 5

(3) SIMPLY BUSINESS should be ready after chasing in a fast mile last week and barely coming up short. There is only $17k on the line this week but this colt seems ready. (2) MORTAL ZIN has looked good so far. Tonight is a real test. (1) SOCIAL NETWORK faced some good competition last time and has a chance if the top one falters.

Race 6

(8) DIAL OR NODIAL has a couple of starts under his belt now and should be ready to step up his game. (2) RIVER SHARK comes off a big mile at Yonkers. Veteran gelding prefers the bigger track. (4) WE WILL SEE comes off a great season but might need one start before being able to go a sub-1:49 mile. (5) SPECIAL T ROCKS is hard to leave out coming off a big win and three in a row.

Race 7

(3) HIGH NOON was just okay in his qualifiers and needed last week’s race to get up to racing speed. I’m looking for more from him now. (5) VEAL MARSALA knows how to win here and had a tough trip last time. (1) TOWNSLIGHT HANOVER raced evenly last time. He draws inside tonight and could surprise with a smooth trip. (7) KEEP GOING is a big threat if he sets up behind cover.

Race 8

(9) ALEXIE MATTOSIE drops out of the Graduate series and has a ton of class. This is a spot where he is supposed to respond. (7) BIG BAM RAY closes like a freight train. (3) FREDDY DAY HANOVER could have gained some confidence off that last score. (1) CUSTARD THE DRAGON is sharp and lured Miller off my top pick.

Race 9

(5) DIABLO SEELSTER drops way down the class ladder and figures to perk up. (6) INTHEBLINKOFANEYE has yet to find that good cover trip which would net him a win. (1) BLUE CLAW has speed from the cones; capable.

Race 10

(1) TIME TO ROLL was simply awesome in his last qualifier. This colt looks like he could be the real deal. I’ll give him the narrow edge over (7) PET ROCK because the price might be a couple of notches higher. The latter was a sharp uncovered winner last time and Sears decided to stick with him over my top pick. (3) HURRIKANE KINGCOLE has talent but remains erratic.

Race 11

I made up my mind going into this series last week that I would select (8) ARTISTS VIEW in the final. I think he is the sharpest and has the most talent right now. Post 10 hurts, but it also means I’ll get a better price. (2) CANACO RUN almost got home for me at 6.70-1 last week. He’s perfectly drawn and could have a say. (1A) SHOW ME UP took a shot on the engine and could not last; capable.

Race 12

(4) BETTOR’S EDGE has been keeping some good company in the mornings and this barn has been sending out live horses all meet. (2) LONG LIVE ROCK burst on the scene with a couple of big miles before coming up short versus a possible star-in-the-making, Pet Rock. This guy is a deserving favorite tonight. (1) POP COP hails from a stable that has seen a couple of youngsters score at first asking in the last week or so.

Race 13

(3) BLUERIDGE WESTERN doesn’t thrill me on paper but is dropping a couple of levels. If he doesn’t find his A game, perhaps fellow dropper (2) RISK MANAGEMENT will wake up. (7) MUST BE THE BUNNY was better than his line looks last week and steps down one condition level.
