Spot Play: WORD POWER (2nd)

Race 1

(3) GAELIC THUNDER reunites with Tetrick, who helped this guy post a sharp 1:51 4/5 mile at Philly in April. This field is full of dull horses; narrow edge. (8) WILLY MUCHA returns to a level where he had plenty of success. (1) STOLEN CAR makes his second start of the year and gets a chance at the basement condition.

Race 2

(3) WORD POWER appeared to have more in the tank while trapped behind horses in the stretch last week. The field he faces on Saturday is much easier and he does appear to be coming around. (7) ODDS ON EQUULEUS has come back to the races in fine form and looks like the one to beat. (1) KEEP GOING is an interesting fit with driver George Brennan. Combo should get a piece.

Race 3

(4) BUCKEYE IN CHARGE is perfectly spotted for a victory and trainer Michael Polio gives up the driving assignment to Ron Pierce to get the job done. (6) RELENTLESS DREAMER closes very well and only needs to be within striking position to get a big check. (5) BOLDER is sharper than he looks on paper; must use. (1) CAUTION SIGNS adds Gingras.

Race 4

(7) GETTINGREADYTOROLL blew away a similar bunch in the Reynolds stakes and should pick up the top prize on Saturday. (4) ROCKINGCAM PARK was no match for the winner last week but seems to be improving. (8) ACT NOW has plenty of talent but might not fire in her first start of the year.

Race 5

(3) SHE’S DANGEROUS hasn’t looked super in her qualifiers but this barn has been hot lately. I’ll give her a tentative vote of confidence. (5) SURFSIDE SEXY has shown miles that are fast enough to win this race; Gingras’ choice. (1) FIYONCE has won two straight including the Courageous Lady.

Race 6

(2) SOME KINDA BEACH was a decent 3-year-old and qualified very nicely on May 10. He seems ready to roll. (5) BET ON THE LAW certainly finds one of the easier spots he has seen lately. (7) ALWAYS B MIKI made a big comeback last week only to be disqualified. Colt has talent.

Race 7

(1) SEBASTIAN K couldn’t have looked any better than he did winning his elimination. What intrigued me was that when he passed Modern Family in the stretch he didn’t pull away. I got the feeling he was waiting on other horses and would have done more if there was competition late. (5) INTIMIDATE raced well in just his second start of the year and could easily be sitting on a big mile. I went back and forth on whether to use him with driver Vinny Ginsburg in the bike, and ultimately, Ginsburg has upset in spots here in the past and I think his style fits this horse. (2) MARKET SHARE is the likely favorite and hard to toss off your tickets. (7) ARCH MADNESS skips the Elitlopp this year and makes his first appearance in this race since 2010. He won that year. Don’t count him out!

Race 8

(4) URGENT ACTION dropped to this level and was super. He is the one to beat in a race that came up pretty tough. (5) TOBAGO CAYS was used really hard and barely missed last time; very dangerous. (6) ONTARIO SUCCESS was coming fast late. If he is sitting second over, watch out. (7) RUSTY SKIPP went a big effort last week for a barn that is waking up; using.

Race 9

(2) TELL US MORE rallied well after a three month break. Likely improvement in his second start back combines with class and post relief to produce some winning angles. (5) STALLONE BLUE CHIP comes off a few tough trips. Smooth sailing could get him home. (4) PEMBROKE DEWEY is as consistent as they come.

Race 10

(2) SIR CARY’S Z TAM went another easy mile in his second start of the year. Four-year-old figures to be handled more aggressively in this spot. (7) MY TEMUDJIN N made a bold move and hung around nicely in his U.S. debut. Last time he raced evenly in a fast mile. Driver change to Callahan is a huge plus; must use. (3) FRIDAY AT FIVE gets post relief after a long trip last time. (4) TREND SPOTTER will be on the bottom of my exotic tickets.

Race 11

(6) WARRAWEE NEEDY gets some class relief this week. He had no shot of closing into a pedestrian clip in the TVG race but should find the early pace faster on Saturday. (3) GOLDEN RECEIVER seems to race better when given an easy trip from off the pace. Time to gun for the lead again. (4) BANDOLITO has proven to be very fast; tested for class tonight.

Race 12

(5) WESTERN VINTAGE may have made a break for no reason in his latest qualifier, but he came back less than an hour later to blowout a 1:50 and change uncharted mile. Western Ideal-sired colt is very fast. (7) DOO WOP HANOVER was super in his qualifier and one to include in case the top one misbehaves. (10) DANCIN HILL has some ability but is stuck outside.

Race 13

(2) SIR SAM’S Z TAM scored in his 2014 debut and should offer good value on Saturday. (9) THAT’S MY OPINION appears to be the most talented in this group. My main concern is whether he’ll leave hard from the outside post. (6) LET’S FOAL AROUND stole the race in this class last week and could have the opportunity to do it again.

Race 14

(6) MC RUSTY drops down and should respond. (2) MEIRS HANOVER has speed and an inside post. (1) HILARIOUS HALO is another with inside speed. (4) JINS DRAGON comes off a good effort at this level.
