Best Bet: ODDS ON DELRAY (9th) Spot Play: BRIGADIERBRONSKI A (8th) Race 2 - $25,000 Guaranteed Pick Five Pool Race 7 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool MEET STATS: 155 - 559 / $983.70 (-$134.30) BEST BETS: 17 - 46 / $58.70 (-$33.30) Race 1 (5) CHECK SIX came up with a credible effort in his lone 2018 qualifier. Career earner of $1.6 million is supposed to handle this group. (6) RODEO ROMEO is firing on all cylinders right now and most certainly will be handled aggressively. (7) BETTOR’S EDGE came up with another game uncovered mile to win last Saturday; outside post hurts. Race 2 On paper it is hard to get excited about any of these. (6) YOU GOT PUMPED has a pair of dull-looking qualifiers to his credit but he was facing some good foes. If he steps forward a bit off those miles he could have a say. (7) DEWAR N JACK kept up in a 1:51 2/5 mile at Vernon last October, so you know some speed is there. The qualifier at Yonkers was good enough to think he is ready. (5) WHEN I SEE YOU N was stuck behind dull cover at one point last week, though that foe went on to win. This import may need to grind on the rim and start his move earlier. (1) AMERICAN VISION came up short in his first start of the year; could improve here. Race 3 (8) LOVE TAP HANOVER chased some fast fractions and finished up steadily in his first start since August 2017. Some improvement seems likely, though even without it he should be competitive. (5) GHOST PINE is the fastest horse in the race if he minds his manners. Is that possible? (7) LUCKY MAN arrives for a good percentage barn and gets David Miller in the bike. This veteran put up 11 wins including at this track in 2017. (3) ARTS BLAZE gets a driver change to Gingras but may not be fast enough for anything but an exotics slot. (4) ALL ABOUT RUSTY has proven capable of going a fast mile at times. Race 4 (7) ALOTBETTOR N got away very slowly and lost any chance of a victory last week, which surprised me. With Marohn knowing the horse better now, hopefully he keeps him in striking range in this slightly softer spot. (1) FIRST CLASS HORSE drops out of the same race as the top pick and gets a huge driver change to Tetrick; expect heavy support at the windows. (6) QUALITY BUD is in career form now and could certainly keep rolling. Race 5 I’ve always thought that (1) UFFIZI could amount to something but it still hasn’t happened as he enters his third year of racing. His comeback qualifier was solid to start his 4-year-old campaign and perhaps we’ll finally see him shine versus a suspect group. (8) MAAJAACKKOBE gets some class relief but does his best work near the lead and there seems to be a bunch of early speed types to his inside. (6) SPEED AGAIN is nearly certain to head to the top and should go a long way. Race 6 (2) DURANT was a star earlier in the meet before he lost his edge facing the best horses on the grounds. He comes back here to face cheaper after a trip to Pocono and should be handled aggressively with Gingras at the controls. (4) GRIFFON HANOVER is also down in class this week after a solid second at Philly. (9) JK WILL POWER finished two and a half lengths behind the former at Philly last time while starting from an outside post; stuck in post 9 this week. (8) SOUTHWIND DIESEL moves into a good barn and adds Tetrick; worth consideration. Race 7 I was torn between (3) MISO FAST and (1) HIGHLATOR here. The former was Tim Tetrick’s choice and he certainly looked worth the $250,000 his connections paid in the January Meadowlands Mixed Sale in his lone Pompano effort. My only concern is that he hasn’t raced in three weeks and had to ship north from Florida. The latter is off a career best 1:49 4/5 win at Pocono and won’t go down without a fight. (2) WESTERN JOE should’ve won last week. I just can’t get that thought out of my mind. Race 8 (7) BRIGADIERBRONSKI A chased through a solid clip from the pocket and came up second best behind a sharp winner last time. This is not an easy spot, but a repeat effort should get the job done. (4) DRUNK ON YOUR LOVE drops for the third straight week and Gingras joins the equation now; interesting. (2) PIERCE is certainly capable in a spot like this one if given a decent trip. (3) JUSTIFIED is another one who is dropping down and could get a nice piece. Race 9 (6) ODDS ON DELRAY finished fast from off the pace in his first start of the year and should be ready to roll now. (7) PEPPER GUY did his best work here earlier in the year. (1) THIS IS THE PLAN finished willingly in both qualifiers as he prepares for his 2018 debut. Three-year-old Chris Ryder trainee is very talented but might get patient handling tonight with more important races down the road. Race 10 If you dig down seven and eight starts back (9) IWILLMAKEYOUSAYWOW wheeled off consecutive wins at this level and in NW5000. This is a great spot for this veteran to shine. (1) JOEY GOODFELLOW made a quick third quarter move and faded in his first start of the year. He can show more this week. (2) MR EUROMAN N started off strong but hasn’t been able to find his grove lately. He was a bit better last time. (7) PANSFORMATIVE hasn’t raced in quite some time but has the speed to menace.
