Spot Play: REVENGE SHARK (4th)

Race 1

(7) WEGOTTATRUCKYEA comes off a solid win at Pocono and faces a blank field. (4) CRUZING HILL put in a steady effort in his first start since November and can build on that performance. (2) EDWARD TEACH won’t need to improve too much for Burke/Gingras to be involved.

Race 2

(5) CHEYENNE SEEBER has plenty of early speed and a win over the track this year. Robert Siegelman-trained gelding isn’t the most talented in the field, but could steal the race at a price. (3) REDISCOVERY finished fourth last week behind three horses that would offer 3-5 odds in this spot; big chance. (6) IDEAL COWBOY started in the North America Cup last year, so you know he has some ability; ready off the bench?

Race 3

(8) MAJOR IN LIFE almost went down the road at 6-5 despite a seven week layoff.  He can certainly improve with that start under his belt and the price should be better, too. (7) BOBBY THE GREEK romped by seven lengths at Dover nine days ago and has enough ability to get Ross Wolfenden to make the rare trip up the NJ Turnpike. (1) AMERICAN MESSENGER is a complete unknown at this point. He is at least worth a long look on the track.

Race 4

(3) REVENGE SHARK was a sharp unasked winner in his qualifier a week ago. This colt was up against it versus Wiggleit Jiggle It in the Gilmour and smartly took a few weeks off to remain eligible for this spot. (5) GOKUDO HANOVER certainly looked good last time, but just about every horse that went to the lead did well last weekend. (4) MIDNIGHT LIGHTNING is a check-earning machine . . . just can’t win.  (6) COLORFUL SPEECH is racing well; capable.

Race 5

(3) THAT’S MY OPINION gets a big class break this week as he is written into this glorified optional $15k claimer. He really should cruise down the road at short odds. (6) DIAMOND SAID has a nose for the wire and plenty of form. (2) MAMBO ITALIANO just missed last week and shouldn’t be hurt by the addition of Gingras. (8) YOU BET YOUR GLASS put in a solid effort last time and should make some noise at some point. (5) DADDY MAC is down in class.

Race 6

(3) DOO WOP HANOVER charged home in his qualifier with a huge 27-second final quarter on a morning when horses simply weren’t sprinting through the stretch. This is not an easy field, but he has a big shot. (6) DOVUTO HANOVER was a game second while unable to best a loose on the lead winner; deserving favorite. (1) ASLAN had no luck at Yonkers but could perk up over the big track. (7) FOOL ME ONCE used the bias to his advantage last Saturday.

Race 7

(9) DAPPER DUDE set a blazing pace and almost went all the way versus a slightly tougher group. I’ll give him a narrow edge in a handicapping puzzler. (2) DYNAMIC YOUTH picked up his game slightly in his second start since August. Six-year-old near millionaire deserves plenty of respect. (1) MISTER VIRGIN technically drops back down to the level where he blew away the competition two starts back. This field is better. (4) BREAKIN THE LAW is 10 for 14 in-the-money this year.

Race 8

(1) SWEET BEACH is far from one of my favorites, but this field appears to have very little early speed on paper and he should be able to take control by default; no excuses tonight. (4) NATHAN FEELSGOOD was flat in the stretch coming off the four month break; can show more. (6) RELENTLESS DREAMER charged home off fast fractions last time and is always a closing threat at this level.

Race 9

(2) SHOCK N ROCK was locked and loaded with pace for most of the stretch and got clearance too late last time. I worry he’ll be overbet, but let’s see what happens come Saturday. (1) ROCKAHOLIC comes off a decent effort and moves into a barn that is 7 for 14 at the meet. (7) CAJUN HOT SHOT figures to be firing off the gate once again; chance with the right trip. (8) GRATIAS DEO has won two straight but enters a barn which is 0 for 10 at the Meadowlands this year.

Race 10

(9) GWENEEEE J sprinted home in 26 seconds with no chance of winning after chasing a very slow pace. American Ideal-sired filly looks best if she can overcome the outside post. (3) LADY SPARTACUS is the uncoupled stable mate of the top choice. She has been racing reasonably well at Yonkers and may just like the bigger track. (10) STORM POINT went some fast quarters as a 2-year-old. I wouldn’t be shocked if this Ron Burke trainee was ready off the bench.

Race 11

(1) ODDS ON EQUULEUS sprinted home off fast fractions last time. If that is a sign he is coming to form, this field has no shot of beating him. (4) BLATANTLY BEST was somehow bet down to favoritism last week in a race where he had no shot on paper. The better starting post should set him up nicely this time. (2) ONTARIO SUCCESS brings a decent effort every week; using underneath.

Race 12

(1) BETTOREVER comes off a good run in the Sagamore series at Yonkers and can use the inside post to his advantage. (7) EL BLOOMBITO was absolutely flying when finally clear last week. If John Campbell can somehow work out a cover trip, watch out! (4) PANCHESTER UNITED put up a career best mile the last time Gingras was in the bike.

Race 13

(1) BUCKEYE IN CHARGE couldn’t have picked a better spot than this one. If he is going to win a race at the Meadowlands anytime soon, it will be tonight. (6) NF DRUM ROLL faced a much better field last time and looks like the obvious chalk. (8) ENCODING Z TAM was stuck with outside posts in his last two starts; better than he looks. (7) ACELO HANOVER has early speed and some form.
