Best Bet: GUNSLINGER HILL (1st) Spot Play: MAROMA BEACH (5th) Race 3 - $25,000 Guaranteed Pick Five Pool Race 8 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool MEET STATS: 129 - 475 / $864.50 (-$85.50) BEST BETS: 15 - 38 / $50.90 (-$25.10) Race 1 (3) GUNSLINGER HILL started from post eight and rallied from last to win his career debut at Pocono, which is not easy to do. I’m sticking with this guy. (5) GOOSE MOUNTAIN flashed speed and tired in his first start since October. He could certainly show more now. (4) JK FIELDING won’t occupy the top spot on my tickets, but he could leave in this spot and should get a piece. Race 2 (5) WESTERN JOE gets the inside post edge this week and should be rating a soft pace on his way to the winner’s circle. (3) DURANT has done a great job of climbing the class ladder. He’ll likely be leaving fast and sitting a good trip. (6) BETTOR’S EDGE came up with a big uncovered mile last time. Race 3 (1) GLENFERRIE DREAMER lured Andy McCarthy off of two other legitimate contenders. While he has been moving from track to track, this spot is probably the easiest he has seen in a while. (6) STITCH IN TIME just missed in a nice on-the-engine try last week. (10) HANKS TIME raced evenly in his first start since November and is way down in class now. Race 4 (2) ART DANCER remained perfect in two career starts after winning his 2018 debut last Saturday. This spot is tougher but he should persevere. (1) JK WILDFIRE also picked up a win in his seasonal debut. Gelding was holding his own in stakes competition last year. (5) HEAVENLY SOUND went way to fast and got caught last out; very playable in here. Race 5 (1) MAROMA BEACH missed by just a head off the bench at 9-1 as my top pick two weeks back. With that race under his belt and McCarthy in the bike, the price will be much shorter now. (2) MIKE’S Z TAM also just missed in his latest start. He drops again tonight and is the main danger. (6) JOE’S BID is coming off two sharp tries and is hard to fault on recent form. (5) RATHER SWELL beat up on weaker last time and now steps up. Race 6 (4) LAWRENCETOWN BEACH took a nice step forward in his second start of the year. I don’t love the fact that he has missed three weeks of racing but this looks like a good spot. (5) SUNFIRE BLUE CHIP toyed with an easier field last time. He certainly has the class to step up against this bunch. (1) GRIFFON HANOVER was in a tough spot last time from the outside post. He can stick closer to the action tonight. (3) DRUNK ON YOUR LOVE had a strong 3-year-old campaign in stakes last year and qualified back well. I’m inclined to give him a start to find his best form. Race 7 (1) STARZNHEAVEN & (1A) ENOCH form a strong entry with a good chance to win for trainer Ron Burke. With some of the other contenders coming back from layoffs, I’ll take my chances with the sharp pair. (6) SOME ATTITUDE improved in his second start of the year at Saratoga and did post a 1:50 1/5 win at the Big M last year. (3) AMERICANPRIMETIME has plenty of talent but I would have liked to see a faster qualifier after three months off. Race 8 (4) MORE DRAGON worked out a good trip and drew clear as expected in the first round of this mini-series and seems perfectly spotted for a repeat in the final. (9) ALL IT TAKES was huge to win his preliminary leg last Saturday; post hurts here. (8) ALLSTAR ENERGY was used hard on the engine and paid the price last time. If he gets away with slightly softer fractions, a win is possible. Race 9 (2) TALENT SOUP was far from spectacular in his first start of the year but did pace home ok. With that effort in hand, this 4-year-old could be ready to show much more. (8) JACKSRLUCKYTOO drops down the condition ladder this week and is impossible to leave off any tickets. (1) NATIONAL SEELSTER has some class and gets an interesting driver change to McCarthy; must use. Race 10 (3) ALLBLACK STRIDE N finds a field without much early speed and should be sitting a good trip with an upset chance. (8) SANTIAGO STYLE charged home like a rocket last week and is clearly feeling good now, but how does he win from last in a possibly paceless race? (4) CALVIN B can’t seem to get the job done in the lane, which has been going on for some time now. Race 11 (5) DRUNKEN TERROR has been sharp for some time now and while it looks like he is moving up in class, this field plays more like a $12,500 claimer than a $15k. (4) JOJO JOVE should be able to make the front and doesn’t seem to have much early speed to his outside. (2) SPAGHETTI EDDIE battled uncovered and raced very well last time. (1) PERFECTLY CLOSE comes in from Yonkers where he was facing some better foes. [DRF HARNESS NEWSLETTER: Sign Up for the FREE DRF Harness Newsletter.
