Meadowlands: Saturday 3/17 Analysis

Email

MEET STATS:  94 - 329 / $702.80

Best Bet: ANNDROVETTE (6th)     Spot Play: SKY TANTRUM (2nd)

Race 1

(2) ONE THROUGH TEN raced well in his 2012 debut and should move forward off that effort. (4) COWBOY MAX certainly qualified well and word of mouth has been good on that effort; interesting. (6) WAYWATCHER gets the slight edge of the rest. Any of these could be third.

Race 2

(1) SKY TANTRUM looks awful on paper but I have faith that trainer Mark Silva will push the right buttons for this class drop to the basement condition. (5) TROPHY HUNTER drops out of the Rags to Riches where he was facing tougher. He's the only other one I like on top. (3) HES GREAT moves inside and keeps Sears. (6) MAR DREAM moves in a few slots and should be tighter now.

Race 3

(1) JIMMIE HANOVER became an immediate bet-back after he dropped down to this level and hung in very nicely despite a brutal trip. This field looks tougher, but I'd expect Campbell to be very agressive in this spot. (7) DIABLO SEELSTER drops way down tonight and has had some success here in the past. (2) FINANCE THE MASTER won in his last start at this level, but Sears did chose the former. (5) TAKEMEWITHYOU is just another dropper with a shot of waking up.

Race 4

(10) MOST HAPPY KEENE was understandably short after taking three months off. The 10-hole should be no problem for this early speedster. (2) IRISH ELITIST steps down the claiming ladder and draws much better. (1) ALLAMERICAN MAJOR has shown some signs of life lately. Waking up now? (4) LAGUNA BEACH has been in tough lately.

Race 5

(3) FOOLS GOLD is a nice horse who is getting right at the perfect time. (6) I WANNA GO FAST had no chance of closing into slow fractions last week; player if top one falters. (1) RISK MANAGEMENT is a must use.

Race 6

There are two ways you can go in here. You can believe that this is a wide open race (which it may be) or you can put your faith in 2011 Pacing Mare of the Year (8) ANNDROVETTE, who hasn't tried at all in the first two legs and should revert to her early speed tactics in the final. (5) HIGHER AND HIGHER just keeps trying every week. As always, you can't toss her. (3) PUT ON A SHOW was better last week and should continue to improve; clear player. (1) GINGER AND FRED was hopelessly trapped last week. She is a quality mare and could really spice up the exotics. (5) TEA PARTY PRINCESS is clearly sharp.

Race 7

(1) DROP RED has speed and class; narrow edge. (6) HES GORGEOUS has always been a fast horse. The move to the Miller barn could produce even more speed. (7) CORKY BARAN drops down and picks up a more aggressive pilot. (2) GET IT NOW should sit close to the pace; chance.

Race 8

(2) GAELIC THUNDER comes off a monster mile. These are the ones I like to bet back the next week. (4) GD AIRLINER finds an easier spot this week. I believe this guy is sharper than he looks on paper and will use him on most of my tickets. (1) BEST MAGIC had no shot last time; moves inside.

Race 9

(3) BIG BAM RAY is another sharp Allard trainee. He can handle the class bump. (7) KEEP GOING drops again and is very capable. (4) PEDRO ISLAND has been stuck with outside posts at Yonkers lately. He is capable of more. (5) MORTALITY comes off a big mile. (10) SHOW ME UP drops down.

Race 10

(2) OSCAR OSCAR took his shot in the Rags to Riches and could not sustain his bid. This field looks much easier to defeat. (5) CAMBASSADOR was claimed for $30k and drops in for $25k this week; tough call. (6) EXCEL NINE ships in with some form.

Race 11

(7) ELUSIVE REWARD posted a nice even mile in his first start in almost a year. Connections don't drop him in class, which is a good sign. Let's look for more this week at a fair price. (2) NF INDEPENDENCE has won his last two starts for this claiming tag. (3) LEGACY N DIAMONDS is one of a few that have shipped up from Florida for this barn. See how the others do before deciding on this guy.

Race 12

(6) HURRIKANE SCOTTY J beat similar last week; again. (1) POKER CHAMP gets a new pilot. I've seen worse horses win. (5) ALL SUMMER LONG rallied nicely from last at Freehold.
