Meadowlands: Saturday 3/10 Analysis

MEET STATS: 87 - 295 / $666.80

Best Bet: FOOLS GOLD (5th)     Spot Play: DROP RED (6th)

Race 1

(6) KEYSTONE RAPTOR was on a long losing streak before his recent dominating and convincing win. I’m on board now, but leery of (7) BIG BAM RAY, who also blew away a cheaper field in his last start. (4) ON THE RADAR drops down but doesn’t exactly catch an easy field. (9) REGIL TIGER takes what looks like the biggest class drop in the field; good barn.

Race 2

(9) ONE THROUGH TEN doesn’t thrill me coming off two qualifiers, but I’m guessing there is talent here and most of those signed on to this race can’t say that. (6) RAJIS BLUE LINE drew poorly in both starts this year. Perhaps we’ll see some speed tonight? (2) ROCK THREE TIMES has been in against tougher. That said, at some point you stop believing.

Race 3

(6) TAKE A WALK raced well in the Junior Trendsetter. He looks fastest in here. (3) BREAKIN THE LAW has won three straight and looked good last week. The top choice may be too tough, though. (1) A MAJOR HAZE finally draws well; exotics must. (7) BETTORS GLASS takes the big step from NW2 to NW3. Let’s see what he is made of.

Race 4

(3) BLATANTLY GOOD was awesome coming first-over and winning going away last time. I can’t go against him off that effort. (5) ONE MORE LAUGH has looked good in his qualifiers. Is it possible that he is finally ready to step up as an older horse? (6) GOLDEN RECEIVER does his thing on the engine each week; could certainly last.

Race 5

(3) FOOLS GOLD gets listed with Tetrick to drive this week! I was going to come back with him if Bier was driving, so I’m definitely on board now. He made a nice move last week but was done in by the slow pace. (5) BOI was trapped along the cones and I really couldn’t decide if he had pace or not. Regardless, he is making his second start of the year and should be tighter. (1) RISK MANAGEMENT couldn’t have drawn up a better trip than he received last week. Things should be tougher tonight.

Race 6

(9) DROP RED showed good early zip and chased a sharp foe for second in his most recent outing. This spot is easier. (1) FITZS Z TAM drops in his return to the Meadowlands. This barn has been waking up lately. (3) HICKORY HORACE failed as the favorite last time; another shot? (8) TUNEARIFFIC is clearly sharp; competition tougher.

Race 7

(2) GRAMS LEGACY was tabbed as a bet-back immediately after I watched his last race. He impressed me by stepping up against older foes and finishing strong. He’ll have all he can handle from (7) MELVYN, but I think this royally bred 4yo might have finally gotten his head screwed on straight. The latter drops down after facing some really sharp foes. He is supposed to bring a big effort against this group. (6) ARTISTS VIEW picked up his game last time; Miller chose off.

Race 8

(6) HANKS KID had a horrible trip while parked out last time. Yeah, he tired in the stretch, but he was in traffic and basically showed some heart and wanted to go on. Getting the top shouldn’t be quite as difficult this week. (8) BEST MAGIC drops back in for a tag. He has a big shot in here. (9) CAMBASSADOR has been sharp for some time now. He has a shot with any reasonable trip.

Race 9

(4) STONEBRIDGE WISH has been just okay in his most recent starts here. Sometimes it takes the right spot to get a horse going, and this is clearly the best spot he has seen in a while. (1) VOICE OF TRUTH never fired in his first start on Lasix. I’ll try again at a price. (6) HEART OF ROCKNROLL had no chance last time and his prior efforts were fine. (5) ART FOR ARTS SAKE lures Tetrick.

Race 10

These guys are going for unheard of money for low-level claimers. (9) COLONEL MOFFITT has been razor sharp in the series and I was okay with his loss last week because he did what he needed to make the final. There should be plenty of action in this race and I’m sure Sears will put him in a winning spot. (2) OSCAR OSCAR is clearly the one to beat. One thing is certain, though, he won’t get away with easy fractions. (5) ALASTAIR HANOVER is clearly capable if he brings his top game. (1) ROCKIN GLASS has been getting away with murder on the lead. Let’s see how versatile he is.

Race 11

(9) DID IT AGAIN took care of business before the scratched-sick line. He is entered right back after only a week off, so the scr line doesn’t worry me. (6) ACTIVATOR has plenty of class and finds the type of field he should race well against. (7) NF INDEPENDENCE won at this level with Sears in the bike just two starts back.

Race 12

(5) MCSOCKS drops down and should perk up. (7) GAELIC THUNDER is another getting class relief. New barn quickly finds a cozy spot for him. (3) DA VISION OF ART completes the class-drop trifecta. He was aimed a bit high after the claim. This spot should suit him nicely.
