Best Bet: ST LADS MOONWALK (11th)

Race 3 - $25,000 Guaranteed Pick Five Pool

Race 8 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

MEET STATS: 83 - 322 / $569.30 (-$74.70)

BEST BETS: 10 - 25 / $35.90 (-$14.10)

Race 1

In what amounts to a wide-open race, (5) DR C’S Z TAM sprinted home nicely with no shot in his first start for this high percentage barn. He should provide decent value here. (4) TERROR OF THE NITE moves up off the claim after winning two straight. I don’t see any reason to ignore his chances at what should be another good price. (2) DRUNKEN TERROR moves into the same stable which sent him out to consecutive placings two and three starts back. (7) IDEAL SHADOW is fast enough off the gate to take these a long way if you can ignore the scratched-lame line last time.

Race 2

(1) THE FIRE WITHIN has been stuck with a string of outside posts. Notice that despite the poor finish positions of late he is coming home in 26 and change each week. Tonight he drops down in class and finally gets a good post. (3) ALWAYS A DIAMOND is another getting class relief. He was a winner when last seen at this level. (7) JOHN DALLY seems to be well classified after facing more talented foes in races for younger horses. I’m going to give him a long look in the post parade.

Race 3

(6) ROLLING SEA rolled off stride while trying to leave off the gate last time. I honestly don’t want to pick him here but I just don’t see another solid option. (10) BET THE DRAGON has the speed to make the top and is a clear player despite the bad post. (2) YO APOLLO CREED is the most talented of the group but didn’t quite look ready for prime time in his qualifier.

Race 4

(3) WORKANDPLAYHARD was used hard in each of the past two starts since stepping down to this claiming price. Callahan is back in the bike and he seems to get along nicely with this gelding. (8) JOJO JOVE took a shot uncovered and weakened in his first start for new connections. Let’s not give up on him just yet. (1) REAL ROCKER got away slowly but came home in 27 2/5 last time. Maybe he sticks closer from the inside post.

Race 5

(1) RATHER SWELL comes over from Dover in decent form and drops in for a claiming tag. While this 7-year-old only has two wins in his last 28 starts, this looks like a good spot. (9) ROCKET J beat many of these last week despite post 9. He’s clearly the one to beat and fear again. (6) DURANT met some resistance making the front last Saturday. A clear shot at the lead would make him a major player.

Race 6

(4) IWILLMAKEYOUSAYWOW finally showed some life when he paced home in 27 1/5 last Saturday. This barn in general picked up its game for the first time this meet and I wouldn’t be shocked if a big effort was coming soon from the gelding. (2) CHIP WALTHER has been racing evenly while up in class and is worth a look against this group. (3) TOO DARN HOT wasn’t going to pass the field last time at Dover and he does have a win at The Meadowlands last year.

Race 7

(1) HUG THE WIND N took plenty of air and fought gamely to the wire to lose by a head last time. That mile proved to me that he is every bit as good as any in this field. (5) WESTERN JOE gets the inside post edge on (6) BETTOR’S EDGE this week. Both should be heading to the front and either has a big shot. (7) ENDEAVOR had his winning streak snapped last week but still put in a solid effort.

Race 8

I’ve been waiting for the right spot to pick (2) CENTURY CHURCHILL again and this looks like it. He double-drops this week and while he takes on a decent group, there are no really sharp killers listed. (4) BIG STRETCH MARK was too far back last time to menace but should be closer with the improved post. (1) FRANKY’S BEACH BOY has the early zip to gun off the gate and secure favorable positioning.

Race 9

(1) LIVE ON was used early and paid the price last time. I’m giving him one more shot remaining at the bottom condition level. (2) BIG TOP HANOVER is one of many class-droppers in here. He drew best of the lot. (5) SOUTHERN PURSUIT N has early speed and form.

Race 10

(8) I’M SOME GRADUATE has been handled with care throughout his racing career but still possesses talent. His qualifier was decent and perhaps he can be ready to fire. (2) URBAN RENEWAL lured Napolitano off the top pick; in form now. (1) CHEYENNE SEEBER returns to The Meadowlands at a reduced level. (5) MAJOR WAR has been racing well of late; using underneath.

Race 11

(1) ST LADS MOONWALK went blistering fractions and still held reasonably well last time. He steps down another level this week and should have no excuses. (6) VILLE VALO comes out of the same race as the top pick and finished a few lengths ahead of him while part of the early duel. (7) COWBOY TERRIER raced well in his debut for the Burke barn.

Race 12

(8) ELRAMA N had no chance from post 10 last time while remaining sharp. He moves in a couple of spots on the gate and gets a touch of class relief as well this week. (1A) SPRINTER N came up big while down in class. This should be a nice test for him and he may be up to it. (3) CHEVALS CLIVESDALE is in a winning spot and should offer a good price. (4) J T steps up off consecutive wins.

Race 13

(6) WALKS OF LIFE has found the wire first in three straight starts at this level. I can’t find a good reason to think tonight will end differently. (4) FOX VALLEY CADET should leave well and sit the pocket behind the odds-on top pick. (5) ENERGY SHAKES is racing well but needs pace help to set him up. (7) FORTY CARROTS & (8) ESPIRIT DE KAYJAY A should be used in the exotics.
