Race 1 - $25,000 Guaranteed Pick Five Pool

Race 3 - $30,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Race 7 - $75,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool

Best Bet: STATESMAN N (11th)

Spot Play: GOLDEN RECEIVER (7th)

Race 1

(8) ALEXIE MATTOSIE ships down from Canada and appears to be a good fit at this level. As long as he shows early speed, I’ll feel good. (2) DAMON BLUE CHIP looks sharp on paper and picking up Gingras is always a plus. (6) SIX GUN can fly off the gate and that should set him up nicely.

Race 2

(6) WISHING STONE is at his best when on the engine and against this short field I would expect he’ll be leaving fast. (2) MARKET SHARE is razor sharp now; must use. (1) UNCLE PETER had no real chance of closing into slow fractions last time; maybe. (3) ARCH MADNESS wouldn’t shock me.

Race 3

(3) STONEBRIDGE BONUS has a bit more recent class than the rest of this field. Even though he is coming in from Freehold, I’d consider this a class drop. (8) STORMIN RUSTLER comes off a decent qualifier; shows speed? (9) ELUSIVE REWARD has plenty of early speed and has proven himself here in the past.

Race 4

(5) CHARISMA HANOVER beat the best 3yo filly in the country last time. She is very sharp and the deserving favorite. (3) AUNT CAROLINE was third behind the top choice in the American National; exotics player. (1) CAROLS DESIRE has speed and an inside post.

Race 5

(5) NEXT FLIGHT gets a trainer and driver change tonight. He looks at least as good as the rest on paper and the new connections could make all the difference. (3) STONEBRIDGE TERROR can step up with a big effort when at the right level and should be close to the action. (1) COLOSSAL looks sharp enough to use but has only one win this year.

Race 6

(6) DOCTOR BUTCH is supposed to step up against a group like this. If he doesn’t fire off the gate you can probably rip up your tickets. (2) THE PAN POOBAH is sharp and hails from the Burke barn. (8) ROCKIN AMADEUS never panned out as a top 3-year-old, but he is very capable. (9) MINDSET always looks good against inferior competition. This spot is tougher.

Race 7

(2) GOLDEN RECEIVER has two things in his favor. First, he absolutely loves this track. Secondly, some others might take it easy with 10 times more money on the line next week. (4) FOILED AGAIN couldn’t be any sharper right now. Keep in mind his poor Big M record has always come when the weather is warmer. (6) WARRAWEE NEEDY likes to loom but can’t get over the top.

Race 8

(1) MAJOR BELLE was between a B-2 to A-1 pacer here earlier this year and this barn had a great winter meet in 2013. I’m thinking this one might wake up tonight? (5) SEEK THE DRAGON looks good on paper if you toss his last from an outside post; Gingras drives this week. (3) CRUISING YANKEE should be competitive; barn change.

Race 9

(3) YO CHEYENNE ROCKY gets the slight nod in a tough race. I like the fact that he should be close to the pace. (2) DREAMLANDS ART qualified back nicely and gets Gingras in the bike now. (5) A SWEET RIDE could be very dangerous. (4) ALSACE HANOVER & (6) MOJO TERROR would be no surprise.

Race 10

(6) SRI PANKA doesn’t exactly jump off the page, but none of these look overly enticing. He has early speed and I’ll take a shot with him at a decent price. (8) BLUEBIRD SHOOTER is an interesting shipper and Callahan chose this guy. (1) AXIOM HANOVER is the best horse in the race, but is coming off a layoff and was awful when last seen on the track; tough call. (5) TROON comes off a decent try.

Race 11

(7) STATESMAN N is simply better than these. (4) SOUTHWESTERN DREAM knows his way to the Meadowlands’ winner’s circle; early speed. (3) CODE WORD should be forwardly placed. (8) STATE TREASURER is a logical player that must overcome the outside post.

Race 12

(2) ARI ALLSTAR hasn’t raced in five weeks and hardly looked like a star in his qualifier. The good news is that he is much faster than his foes on Saturday. (1) AMERICAN PAPARAZZI has some recent form. (9) ROCKSTAR STRIDE made a sick move in his last start after an early break. Maybe he is turning the corner? (4) BARBARIAN should be used in your exotics.

Race 13

(6) BUCKEYE IN CHARGE did very well here earlier this year. Even though his recent form looks awful, I’ll roll the dice against this questionable group. (4) WEB CAM ships down from Canada and finds a nice spot. (1) GRATIAS DEO has speed and some form. (7) CELEBRITY SCANDAL has won three of his last four starts and now adds Tetrick; makes sense.
