Spot Play: SWEET JUSTICE (3rd)

Race 1

(4) WORD POWER didn’t have much of a chance to close into a slow pace last time. This is his second start in three weeks and he should be ready for action. (5) BAD BOY MATT should be on or near the lead with a big shot of winning. (6) TEXICAN N drops out of the Open Handicap ranks out of town and seems to be in very soft.

Race 2

(3) WAKE UP PETER is a bit of a grinder who couldn’t get close enough to a hot pace last time. This spot is slightly easier. (7) AL’S HAMMERED proved himself upon arrival from Balmoral; clear threat. (4) HILLBILLY HANOVER has been known to perk up at the Meadowlands.

Race 3

(5) SWEET JUSTICE was stuck behind horses while under a tight hold last time. That mile was much better than a fifth-place finish. (3) MASTER OF LAW gets some major class relief this time around. Jimmy Takter trainee is a must use. (8) NF HAPPENSTANCE has plenty of early speed and form. (10) TIRADE HANOVER is razor sharp; post hurts.

Race 4 – Breeders Crown Final

(7) GUESS WHOS BACK has always displayed talent and seems to be steadier with the hobbles added. I loved his bold elimination move and with better timing, he could be taking his picture. (5) PINKMAN has been on a nice roll but did get lucky to find room in his elimination. I fear him but don’t love him as the favorite. (6) MUSCLE DIAMOND has been closing for good pieces lately. John Campbell hinted that maybe we’ll see a more aggressive drive in the final. (3) HABITAT is hard to toss off your tickets.

Race 5 – Breeders Crown Final

(3) JK SHE’SALADY has dominated just about every time she has shown up at the track. I just don’t see any filly that can keep up with her at this point. Crown her! (5) BETTOR BE STEPPIN has the early speed to get position and should have every shot to finish second. (9) SASSA HANOVER has only been worse than second once in her career. The outside post hurts but she still merits consideration.

Race 6 – Breeders Crown Final

Any of the seven horses in this race can ultimately get their picture taken. (5) FOILED AGAIN still has plenty of guts but has been coming up short in recent races. I’ll take the all-time leading money winner and roll with him. (6) CLEAR VISION does his best work when he is close to the pace on the rim; toss his last effort. (7) SWEET LOU moved in the right direction last time; more now?

Race 7 – Breeders Crown Final

(10) IN THE ARSENAL was used hard on the engine last time. He is the best 2-year-old in this race and a smoother trip gets him home. (3) LYONS LEVI LWEIS is a speedy Ron Burke-trained colt who should be a player. (5) GO DADDY GO was a game winner in his elimination; one to fear. (2) TRACEUR HANOVER raced big last time.

Race 8 – Breeders Crown Final

(11) VENUS DELIGHT has posted a 8-4-2-1 record since moving into the PJ Fraley barn. The $31,250 supplement gets her first chance to show what she’s made of and she looks fast enough to compete in this wide open field. (5) YAGONNAKISSMEORNOT has been a win machine this year. She is the one to beat. (6) SHELLISCAPE won the Breeders Crown last year; needs some pace help. (4) SOMWHEROVRARAINBOW is racing better in recent weeks; definite chance.

Race 9 – Breeders Crown Final

(10) E L TITAN is the freshest horse in the race with only seven starts this year. The outside post presents a problem, but Pierce should be able to find a spot to drop in. With Nuncio and Father Patrick offering no value, I’ll roll the dice here. (6) FATHER PATRICK reportedly had a bad qualifier, but I thought the effort was better than most thought. Will he bring his ‘A’ game? I have no clue. (3) NUNCIO is the one to beat at this point, but I haven’t been overly impressed with his last two wins.

Race 10 – Breeders Crown Final

(5) LIMELIGHT BEACH posted a sharp wire to wire victory in his elimination and has basically been solid in every race since moving to the Ron Burke barn. While there are a few contenders in the field, at least you know he’ll be sitting first or second and in prime position to win. (6) JK ENDOFANERA seems to be in a great tactical spot this week. Driver Ron Pierce can leave with an eye on the lead or sit and follow live cover from some strong foes drawn to his inside. (4) ALWAYS B MIKI is the deserving favorite having won five straight, but he wasn’t exactly overpowering last week and there is some quality in this field. (9) LUCK BE WITHYOU might just throw caution to the wind and gun off the gate from his outside post. His elimination effort is better than it looks on paper.

Race 11 – Breeders Crown Final

(2) MARKET SHARE was absolutely super in the Dayton Trotting Derby. He has missed a month of action, but maybe that’s what he needs at this point to put forth a top effort (think Thoroughbred scheduling). Either way, he raced big last time and draws well tonight. (4) MAVEN beat the boys last time but did get a pretty good trip to work with. If she gets another smooth journey, she’ll have a big chance. (9) COMMANDER CROWE probably should have won the International Trot Preview. He adds Lasix now; helps? (6) ARCHANGEL is due for one of his gun to the lead and take charge type races; maybe tonight?

Race 12

(1) BLATANTLY BEST rallied past a bunch of horses last time but wasn’t coming from tenth to win. He draws better this week and should be closer to the action. (4) OK COMMANDER ADDED Lasic and perked up for a dead heat win; stays in same class. (10) DEDI’S DRAGON might be stuck outside, but he has the early zip to overcome. (5) LONEWOLF CURRIER is plenty fast if ready off the qualifiers.

Race 13

(4) URGENT ACTION dominated the C-1 class earlier in the year with Tim Tetrick in the bike. If he brings anything close to his top game, he wins easily. (3) BUBBIE BOY comes out of a similar class to the top choice at Pocono and gets a nice driver change. (8) AGOOD TIME TO ROCK has plenty of early speed and hails from a top barn. (1) DESTINATION MOON N is better than his last two lines would indicate.
