Cloudy skies and 40-degree temperatures covered the oval this morning. The wind was calm for the 15-race card.
RACE 4- MMS LUCKY BOY ships in from The Meadows for Erv Miller; looked very sharp today.
RACE 5- MAJOR HERBIE ships up from Dover into the Julie Miller barn; looks like a fit with upper-condition trotters.
RACE 6- BLOMKVIST is slowly making progress for team Takter. He may need one more tune-up session.
RACE 8- CHANCEY LADY is a top notch mare who looked very strong today; finished under a tight hold with plenty more in the tank.
RACE 10- ANNDROVETTE was bearing out a bit leaving; other than that the 2011 Breeders Crown Champion looked good off the layoff.
RACE 11- TIDEWATER TOMAHAWK was used multiple times and still held very well to the wire; more sharp Burke stock.
RACE 13- KINGS LEGEND showed a flash of early speed. That should prove a big addition to his untested arsenal.
Best Bets
Making just his second start of the year, Lanson gave notice at Philadelphia that he is about to return to form. He put in a nice uncovered mile and held well to be beaten by less than a length. He returns to the Meadowlands now and catches a decent group that includes possibly the leading player for this year’s Hambletonian. That said, he is as fast or faster than any of these and should be primed for a big effort.
