It was a cloudy 45-degree morning at the New Meadowlands. The track was listed as sloppy and the very deep surface warranted a -3 time allowance by the judges. The wind was dead calm for the 16-race card.
RACE 2- LIVE JAZZ - Throw out the final time because of the deep racing surface; dominated this group with ease.
RACE 8- WESTERN TRADEMARK put in a monster effort today; was scratched-lame in September and seems to be fully recovered.
RACE 9- SONIC DANCER put up the best time of the day including a last quarter in :27.2 under own power. Toscano has this one going in the right direction.
RACE 11- FIRE IN THE NIGHT improved greatly off last week’s effort; fits very cheap and was driven out with an open stretch lead. Looks ready to win.
RACE 13- ROBURASCAL fought bravely down the lane against a superior rival; very live play at the $10,000 claiming level.
RACE 14- JOLTING KATE Burke trainee was driven out by Gingras in an easy win; looks tight and ready.
RACE 15- JUST A GLIMPSE romped by 16 lengths against very weak rivals; not worth a short price.
Best Bets
SCAT PATTY can lead gate to wire at a short price if she reproduces her most recent start. She ran well all three starts since claimed by Vladimir Cerin, including a runner-up finish last out at a six-furlong distance slightly out of reach. She finished more than four lengths clear of third, returns at the same class level ($25k claiming, N2L), and shortens to five and a half furlongs. On paper, she is long gone. METAXA will keep the top choice company while dropping in class from maiden-40 starter. CASSANDRA LYNNE has regressed since her winning debut, but drops to a new low.
