Perfect Spirit led a Svanstedt exacta in the Tompkins for sophomore trotting colts

Perfect Spirit and Feed Your Head were the winners of the pair of Arthur Tompkins Memorial splits for 3-year-old trotters on Saturday night at the Meadowlands.

The colt flight went for a purse of $59,370 and Perfect Spirit (Ake Svanstedt) took the group of ten to the opening quarter in 27 3/5 before he yielded to stable-mate Yes Mickey (Andrew McCarthy).  Yes Mickey would go on to hit the half in 55 2/5 and the three-quarters in 1:23 4/5, but Perfect Spirit came back to his outside in the lane and wore him down to win by half a length in 1:51 2/5.  Southwind Hydro (Marcus Johansson) swept from eighth to third in the final panel.

Svanstedt also trains the victorious Andover Hall colt for owner SRF Stable.  This was Perfect Spirit's sixth career victory, and he has now earned $134,419.  He was sent off at 9-2 and paid $11.40 to win.

The fillies raced in their $49,870 section two races prior, and Feed Your Head (Yannick Gingras) posted fractions of 27 4/5, 57, and 1:25 on her way to a 1:52 score.  She defeated favorite Overdraft Volo (Andy Miller) by 2 1/4 lengths, with Leet Hanover (Svanstedt) third after a two-hole trip.

The victorious daughter of Muscle Hill is trained by Jimmy Takter for owner Mellby Gard Inc.  This was her fourth lifetime win, and she pushed her bankroll to $156,304.  She was the 3-2 second choice and returned $4.80 to win.
