He's Watching drew off easily to take his Meadowlands Pace elimination.

JK Endofanera stamped himself as the horse to beat in next Saturday’s (July 12) Meadowlands Pace. The winner of the $1 million North America Cup last month at Mohawk was used twice to get to the lead but gamely held off the closing bids of Always B Miki and Lyonssomewhere in the stretch in a 1:48 2/5 mile.

Brian Sears was in the bike behind J K Endofanera and had him away from the gate well in fourth early as Lyonssomewhere cut the opening quarter in :26 4/5. Sears moved his sophomore son of Art Major to the front by the half in :54 2/5 and then kept the pace lively pacing a third quarter in :27 1/5 to reach the call in 1:21 3/5. Doo Wop Hanover made a prolonged uncovered bid to reach the leaders flank on the final turn but he faded in the stretch. Always B Miki rallied wide and finished with solid foot for place with Lyonssomewhere appearing most of the mile to have pace, flattening out late in third. Both Doo Wop Hanover and National Debt also advanced to the final.

“I knew I was going to have to use him pretty good,” said Sears after the race. “We had to race but at least we don’t have to worry about post position next week.”

The race winners from each $50,000 Meadowlands Pace elimination get to select post positions for the final.

He’s Watching bounced back with a career-best mile in capturing the second Meadowlands Pace elimination for driver Tim Tetrick. The son of American Ideal managed to find a spot in the early stages then followed the very live cover of Sometimes Said the second half. In the stretch He’s Watching rallied wide and strolled home impressively in 1:48 1/5 defeating Sometimes Said with Luck Be Withyou closing late for third. Jet Airway and Tellitlikeitis completed the qualifiers for next week’s final.

The action was hot and heavy in the early stages with Tellitlikeitis and Luck Be Withyou exchanging the lead through a :26 4/5 opening quarter. Let’s Drink On It made a bold move to clear at the :53 4/5 half-mile marker and was pressed going to the three quarters in 1:20 4/5. In the stretch the leader tired and the closers took over.

“He’s a very fast horse,” said Tetrick after the race. “I got away in a good spot and was lucky to follow Corey (Callahan driving Sometimes Said). He actually got past the leader and made my job easy.”

JK Endofanera chose post two in the $776,000 final while He's Watching took the three-hole.

Later in the evening, 3-year-old fillies went behind the gate in the Mistletoe Shalee elimination. The top seven fillies were to make the final along with Uffizi Hanover, Weeper and Rock N Roll Xample. Sandbetweenurtoes won the elimination in 1:49 1/5 and improved to 5-for-5 in 2014. She will get to choose her post in the final.

Other qualifiers for the $212,150 Mistletoe Shalee final are (in order of finish): Table Talk, Gallie Bythe Beach, Precocious Beauty, Act Now, Allstar Rating, and My Lady Day.
