The opening legs of a trio of series - the Hot Lead, the Escort, and the Rainbow Blue - headlined the Saturday night program at the Meadowlands. The Hot Lead Series, for pacers of all ages that were non-winners of $20,000 in 2018 and who had started eight or more times in 2018 as of April 15, saw Santiago Style and Commentariat draw first blood. In the first $12,500 division Santiago Style (Jim Marohn Jr.) worked out a third-over trip through fractions of 26 2/5, 55 4/5, and 1:24, then rallied for the win by three-parts of a length in 1:51 2/5.  Avatartist (Scott Zeron) also came from off-the-pace to snag second, with Brian J (Yannick Gingras) third. Santiago Style is a 5-year-old Shadow Play gelding trained by Bob Bongiorno for owner Marcos Ameralis.  Santiago Style scored his 15th career victory, and he paid $4.00 to win as the even-money choice. Commentariat (Andrew McCarthy) pulled a 6-1 upset in the other split, stopping the clock in 1:51 2/5.  Commentariat made the front from post eight, fought off a strong first-over try from favored Ballerat Boomerang (Andy Miller) and went on to beat Maajaackkobe by a length and a quarter.  Chip Walter (Zeron) took third. The victorious 4-year-old Bettor's Delight gelding is trained by Noel Daley for owner Caviart Farms.  Commentariat scored his sixth lifetime triumph, and he returned $14.20 to win. The Escort, which is for 3-year-old colt pacers who were non-winners of two extended pari-mutuel races or $25,000 lifetime (with winners of over $75,000 lifetime ineligible as of March 15), was divided up into a pair $12,500 divisions, and Life Happened and Babes Dig Me were victorious. Life Happened (David Miller) moved from second to first heading to the 56 2/5 half in the first Escort section, and held off a stern first-over test from Thor De Vie (McCarthy) in the final quarter to win by a nose in 1:52 3/5 over the good going.  Better Watch Out (Eric Abbatiello) took third. Trainer Blake MacIntosh also co-owns Life Happened, an Art Major gelding, with partner Hutt Racing Stable.  This was the gelding's third career victory, and he paid $6.20 to win as a 2-1 shot. Babes Dig Me (Zeron) was pounded down to 1-9 in the other Escort test, and he didn't disappoint, using a 26 3/5 final kicker after a second-over trip to win by a pair of lengths in 1:53 4/5.  Dewar N Jack (Gingras) was the runner-up after providing the cover to the winner from first-up, and California Cruisin (McCarthy), who led most of the way, held third. A Somebeachsomewhere colt, Babes Dig Me is trained by Tony Alagna for owners Bradley Grant, Joe Sbrocco, In The Gym Partners, and Robert Leblanc.  This was Babes Dig Me's second lifetime win, and he returned $2.20 to win. The Rainbow Blue is the 3-year-old filly pace companion event to the Escort, carrying the same conditions, and KJ's Justine and Come Get The Cash prevailed. KJ's Justine (Gingras) secured top honors in the first $12,500 flight, getting up after a two-hole trip to tally by a length and a half in 1:52 3/5.  Pasta Blue Chip (A. Miller) set the tempo and wound up second, with Odds On Ashley (Zeron) up from second-over for third. Linda Toscano trains KJ's Justine, a daughter of American Ideal, for owner Ken Jacobs.  She has won three times from eight career starts, and she paid $9.40 to win as a 7-2 shot. Come Get The Cash (Marohn Jr.) took the lead from first-over at the 1:25 3/5 three-quarters in the other Rainbow Blue showdown, and held safe from there, winning by a neck in 1:53 4/5.  Ideal Talker (McCarthy) and Sand Artist (Gingras) rounded out the top three. This was the second winner on the night for Blake MacIntosh, who co-owns Come Get The Cash, a Western Terror filly, with partners Glenn Bechtel and Stuart McIntosh.  Come Get The Cash has a trio of victories in her life, and she returned $6.60 as a 2-1 offering.
