Meadowlands handle tops $1 million twice


The Monmouth at Meadowlands all-turf meet will continue this week with evening cards Thursday through Saturday. The New Jersey Thoroughbred season will wrap up next week when the Meadowlands holds afternoon programs Monday through Wednesday.

Post time this week is 7 p.m. Eastern. First post next week is 1:10 p.m.

The reduced takeout on all wagers at the Meadowlands meet is 15 percent.

The Meadowlands had a season-high handle of $1.35 million on its six-race card last Friday and handled $1.16 million on Saturday.

In the 1980's when the big M T-bred meet was good, they ran an afternoon card on Monday Columbus Day.  If was
mobbed.  If you did not know someone you could not get a seat.  Why have all the smart GM's forgot to look back at the successes and stop trying to re-invent the wheel.

Yeah you would think its a no brainer but then the racing industry never missess an opertunity to miss an opertunity...Large fields , all turf , the added chance to actually turn a decent roi, give the people what they want and they will come.

reducing the takeout--when will the industry realize that helping the bettors helps increase handle?--over $1mil for 6 races is monstrous for this product--more states should try this and then mandate the entire concept
