Race 1

In all honesty, none of these jump off the page as interesting plays, which will make this a spread in the $29K pick five carryover. (5) CELEBRITY PILATUS has displayed some versatility and gets my narrow call. (2) SECRETCODE HANOVER won at first asking for a barn that typically takes its time with youngsters. I’m willing to overlook the recent break and hope he reverts to previous form. (3) LAGERFELD got caught in a fast mile last time. This group isn’t going near 1:54 on Friday. (8) STAYIN STRONG is coming off a decent effort; capable.

Race 2

The pick five sequence doesn’t get much easier in this race. While I hate the second-tier post for (11) NO RECESS, this horse is coming off a sharp win and arrives for a trainer driver Combo that has already had quite a bit of success in these amateur races this meet. (3) DANCING DYNAMITE is another fresh off a win. I don’t love this mare as a win bet since the driver is typically overbet, but she clearly figures. (5) PERMANENT JOY has one of the better amateurs in the bike; never leave him off your tickets! (4) ANNIES LIST has been chasing some faster foes in recent weeks and seems to be in a better spot now.

Race 3

(8) IDEAL ROCKY looked to be a pretty good horse before the miscue at The Meadows last week. Now back on the big track in familiar territory, driver Corey Callahan can get her away in contention and get the job done. (1) AMERICAN PASSPORT has displayed flashes of ability but also a propensity to break; must use him, but can’t love him on top. (4) SPICE BOMB is slowly getting better each week. He is going to get over the top one week soon. (2) RODEO ROMEO has some early speed and raced well here in late June/early July.

Race 4

(3) CITY HALL comes off a huge mile here last week and seems like a must use on top despite the tougher competition. (4) THAT’S MY OPINION is capable of winning but can’t seem to get over the top lately. (2) ALEX BULLVILLE drops down in class and deserves consideration. (7) GIACODELIGHT blew away a cheap field at Vernon and ships down for a high percentage barn. I wouldn’t be shocked if he was live.

Race 5

(3) WHOM SHALL I FEAR finally gets away from some of the best 3-year-old trotters in the sport and has the opportunity to get aggressive. (7) IRON has ability but keeps breaking. Hobbles have been added; interesting. (6) TRUE BLUE STRIDE could turn into a decent horse one day but the top pair appears slightly better now.

Race 6

(5) MUSCLE BABY DOLL has taken care of Ontario bred competition rather easily and tries her luck against open company. Unless (1) MAGIC MARKER returns to the form she displayed in the Reynolds on July 11, she looks best. (3) MODEL BEHAVIOR has done his best work against slightly lesser foes than she faces tonight; using underneath.

Race 7

(8) COCOACABANA gets plenty of class relief and a catch-driver back in the bike. Filly should have no problem overcoming the outside draw. (3) ALL THAT SPARKLES blew away her foes at Mohawk last time. If Muscle Baby Doll races well in the sixth, move this gal up a notch. (1) BLUE MUSE fits nicely with this group and looks like a clear player with a top effort.

Race 8

(5) SHOW RUNNER ships in for a barn that seems to be doing its best work with new acquisitions. This gal is sharp and doesn’t exactly face any monsters. (7) CLORIS HANOVER arrives at the Meadowlands off a decent effort and caught a pretty good spot. (6) THAT WOMAN HANOVER has speed and is always dangerous.

Race 9

(5) DD’S HITMAN moved into the Ron Burke barn and became a completely different horse seemingly overnight. A similar performance to last week should get him home. (7) WORLD CUP was done in by the trip a week ago; very dangerous. (6) IN NOMINE PATRI has been knocking heads with some tough foes in the Open Handicap over his last two starts. This spot is obviously easier.

Race 10

(5) KEYSTONE THOMAS blitzed two similar fields in July amateur competition here. He had no shot facing upper-level foes in his most recent starts. (3) AND HEEZ PERFECT comes off a victory and is steered by a driver I have some confidence in. (1) FALCOR BLUESTONE has been racing well in recent weeks and deserves a look at least underneath. (11) JACKS TO OPEN should get a piece of the exotics.

Race 11

(4) MAMBO ITALIANO doesn’t exactly jump off the page, but this race came up very soft and the switch to Callahan is a positive one. (2) HIGH OCTANE N tends to get up for a share often enough. In this field he could have win aspirations. (6) BIG RED has high early speed and shouldn’t face too much opposition to his inside.

Race 12

(5) BUCKEYE IN CHARGE has yet to pick up his win for the meet and his opportunities end today. Eight-year-old has been racing reasonably well and faces an abysmal bunch. (4) ACELO HANOVER was used hard on the engine a week ago when speed wasn’t doing very well. Driver change to Scott Zeron is a plus. (7) STORMIN RUSTLER picks up a better post this time; clear danger.

Race 13

This race is virtually impossible to handicap with confidence. (3) MR RIDGETAKER seems like the one to beat if he minds his manners. (1) WHATA HUSTLER could flash speed and work out a cozy trip in a bulky field. (10) SWIFT BLIZZARD has early speed and could secure good position despite the bad post. (6) PERFECT PICTURE doesn’t look very good but wouldn’t be a complete shocker.
