Meadowlands: Friday 6/1 Analysis

Email

CHAMPIONSHIP MEET STATS: 32 - 96 / $172.00

Best Bet: DEJARMBRO (10th)      Spot Play: DROP THE BALL (4th)

Race 1

Driver Tim Tetrick was listed on both (9) APPOMATTOX and (8) LIBORIO. He drives pretty regularly for both barns, so his decision to choose the former is key. Appomattox qualified back nicely and was highly thought of enough to go in the Breeders Crown last year. Liborio got his act together with hobbles added and could show more now. (4) MRS MRS JONES rallied well versus a runaway winner last time.

Race 2

(9) MODERN FAMILY has righted the ship with hobbles added and could offer some value in this spot. (2) STERLING VOLO returned with a strong qualifier. (6) POWER PLAY won by open lengths but didn’t impress me enough to take a short price this week. I like Yannick in the bike but this guy can be erratic. (7) JOEY CHESTNUT could be up to this given the right trip.

Race 3

None of these does much for me. (7) ALL MUNKY BUSINESS rallied pretty well last time and has been getting consistent checks. (3) BULLVILLE WIN was a good second behind a runaway winner last week. (4) FANDANGO DANCER only needs to stay flat to spice up the exotics.

Race 4

(1) DROP THE BALL has basically been going through the motions in the morning. This isn’t a key stakes spot but I expect we’ll see more from her tonight. (6) OLE MISS handled the former as she dug in for the score in last week’s qualifier. This is one of the few times where Yannick won’t drive for Burke. (2) DRAGON PRINCESS and (7) BILLIE BLUECHIP are both coming off confidence building wins and capable of going back to back.

Race 5

(6) TEXAS RIDGE has been all over the track recently. I feel like I said this before, but he added hobbles in his qualifier and was a monster. I’m on board if the price is reasonable. (5) DOUBLE UP HANOVER is the second half of my risky top two. If he minds his manners he can certainly win. (8) ZUEREST gets another shot at this level despite the game win. (1) CELEBRITY PLAYBOY drops down; maybe.

Race 6

This looks like a wide open race. (6) CHAPLIN HALL looks very capable at a nice price. (1) COCO LINDY drops one class on paper but freefalls in terms of field quality. (4) ELLENS ISLE and (3) LADY ANDOVER both broke in their 2012 debuts. Neither would be a shock in here. (7) ENOUGH TALK woke up last time but needs more against this group; missed three weeks.

Race 7

(6) BEST BOSS had too far to come last week; narrow call in tough pick four sequence. (3) NITE GAMES is a must use at this level. (10) ROMANTIC MOMENT is probably the best in here, but we have to calculate intent from post 10 with only $14,000 on the line; looks like maintenance mile. (9) ODDS ON AVENTURE drops down but broke last time; tough call.

Race 8

(9) PIERCE MY HEART is a rare Bangor shipper at the Meadowlands. The track variant and driver change alone should get her down five seconds in time. Maybe she is this good. (6) MUY CALIENTE makes her second start for the Burke barn. Sometimes in takes horse a start to get used to their regimen. (2) PACIN YANKEE has been fairly consistent.

Race 9

(6) SIGNAL was on my radar last week when she was arguably facing tougher. I like her in this spot. (7) RUB THING drops down and lures Pierce off my top choice. (10) LOVE THIS PLACE comes out of the same race as my top choice. She raced okay that night but draws poorly again.

Race 10

(2) DEJARMBRO qualified back sharply and doesn't face much. (1) BEATGOESON HANOVER had a tough trip last week; prior form fine. (3) IN FOCUS gets Pierce back in the bike.

Race 11

(7) EASY DE VIE made my Horses to Watch list. She sat at the back and had some traffic issues while completely out of it. The driver switch to Pierce makes a big difference. (6) SHANGHAI LIL gets post and class relief. (5) HOLLYS HALO also gets a new driver; not impossible.
