Best Bet: LAUDERDALE (1st) Spot Play: DOUBLE L LINDY (7th) Race 2 - $25,000 Guaranteed Pick Five Pool Race 6 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool FINAL MEET STATS: 160 - 579 / $1006.70 (-$151.30) BEST BETS: 18 - 48 / $61.90 (-$34.10) Race 1 (7) LAUDERDALE lucks into a great spot this week courtesy of the AE condition. The breaks before the time off are a concern, but he really should dominate. (5) CHECKMATE TIME is a capable horse that could certainly step up. (2) BROWN BEAR hasn’t been able to stay on the track but seems to have a bit of ability. Race 2 (5) DANISH DURANGO certainly raced well in his first start for the Surick barn, overcoming a tough trip to miss by just 1-1/2 lengths. This isn’t an easy spot but early speed seems likely to set up a good trip. (6) PARTY ON THE RIVER has been ultra-consistent and will get over the top eventually. (7) TECH TITAN is well-spotted in this field for an amateur pilot that has plenty of career wins. (9) HOT SUMMER KNIGHT has been in fine form lately; post hurts a bit. Race 3 I see three horses coming out of good qualifiers with a big chance to score here. (6) VOSS VOLO gets my narrow call since he has two foundation efforts for his 2018 debut versus one each for the others. While he was passed by (4) ZEPHYR KRONOS in the lane, he wasn’t exactly all out for the victory. The latter settled in and finished up willingly in that qualifying mile. The son of Ready Cash seems to have matured over the winter. (5) VELVATTER did nothing wrong in her qualifier but does take on the boys. Race 4 (4) RED SNAPPER displayed a bit of ability as a 2-year-old and really didn’t get much opportunity to shine from post 8 at Yonkers. Picking up David Miller this week from a good post, this daughter of Somebeachsomewhere could be a sneaky-good play. (1) BUTCHIE BEACH was a $205,000 purchase that has taken some time to make it to the races. I guess we’ll see what she has in the tank tonight. (2) SAND ARTIST raced OK in her first start of the year; more now? Race 5 (5) GEMOLOGIST left from the far outside to make the top and showed some huts besting next out winner (9) U NEED STONES. Svanstedt trainee seems worth following here at what could be a fair price. (6) SEVEN KARATS has done everything right in two morning preps. She’s clearly the one to beat. U Need Stones raced big in his 2018 debut and only the outside post is an issue. (1) LOVELY LYNNLY hasn’t stepped up and demanded the front yet. I expect that will happen sooner or later; probably not tonight. Race 6 (2) PENPAL now has two starts under her belt and should be ready for a peak performance. (7) INVERSE HANOVER almost took a better field down the road last week and is a must use here. (6) CLEAR IDEA exits stakes action at Yonkers. She could potentially fire off the gate this week. Race 7 (1) DOUBLE L LINDY gets a ton of class relief and moves way inside from post 10. This is a spot where this son of Muscles Yankee should show what he has in the tank. (7) CHROMEO has climbed the ladder impressively and faces a big test this week. (2) MY CHERRY PIE can save ground and get into the number or perhaps pull off the upset with a perfect scenario. Race 8 (6) PASS LINE BLUECHIP might have rode a perfect trip but still put up a 1:51 1/5 win. That mile sticks out for me and I like knowing she’ll be on the engine on a somewhat warm spring night. (4) SPEEDO MISS is perfect in five starts this year. How that great form will transfer to the big track is a question that needs to be answered. (2) MAJORSSPECIALLADY was second in the Breeders Crown last year. There is no doubt she has talent if ready to roll off the one qualifier. (1A) COME GET THE CASH was Callahan’s choice here over a couple of others. Race 9 (5) PRESTO BLUE CHIP has looked good at Philly in her first two races of the year and the price should be right in this spot. (1) STEP BEYOND put in a steady mile in her first start of the year and she is more than eligible to step up tonight. (2) BETTERTHANBRIE will catch plenty of attention after that qualifying win and with Miller hoping in the bike, but I didn’t feel like she had more than we saw in the morning. (4) PARKAVENUEJULIEANN has been picking up big checks in this class. [DRF HARNESS NEWSLETTER: Sign Up for the FREE DRF Harness Newsletter. Fresh content and insights delivered each Thursday.]
