Best Bet: CRAZY WOW (6th) Spot Play: YOU’RE MAJESTIC (5th) Race 2 - $25,000 Guaranteed Pick Five Pool Race 7 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool MEET STATS: 155 - 559 / $983.70 (-$134.30) BEST BETS: 17 - 46 / $58.70 (-$33.30) Race 1 (3) DANISH DURANGO gets a significant barn change here for a pilot that is still searching for his first win at the meet. In a race without a standout, I’ll take a shot. (4) SHADY MCCOY just needs to stay closer to the action to have a shot; better post and shorter field helps. (8) HOT SUMMER KNIGHT is capable of sweeping the field if the pace is quick enough to set up his rally. Race 2 (1) LIVEONTHEPHONE raced just evenly in his lone qualifier, but we’ve seen trainer Ake Svanstedt have them ready off these non-descript lines in the past. (5) CALIFORNIA CRUISIN has no excuses in my mind for the loss last week. That said, none of these horses jump off the page. (2) POP’S ROMEO is not a win player for me, but saving ground and hitting the bottom exotics seems very possible. Race 3 (7) LUCKY RAINBOW elected to show early speed in her first start of the year, which is a positive sign in my eyes. With that race under her belt, she might be able to take a nice step forward in a tough race to figure. (3) WITH PRESENCE, (2) DEW TO WIN & (4) CAVIART CADY are all coming off qualifiers which are good enough to think slight improvement could result in a win. Race 4 Here is another race without many angles or form to latch onto. I’ll try (2) STEP BEYOND, who put in a steady qualifier in her first charted line of the year and hails from the top Burke barn. (6) PARKAVENUEJULIEANN was a solid second in this class last Friday and that alone makes her worth a look here. (3) COFFEE’S READY got away slowly from the pylons at Philly, which is somewhat typical. I’m inclined to give this gal one more chance. Race 5 (5) YOU’RE MAJESTIC added trotting hobbles and beat up on an inferior group. This is a big test for this classy 6-year-old to see if she is really back on the road to career form. (6) P L ICABOD is back at the level of his last victory. (1) MONTALBANO BI & (1A) MISSLAROSE are both capable when they behave and you are getting two for one. Race 6 Normally I would shy away from a horse making his first start of the year with a stake coming up the following week, but (1A) CRAZY WOW hails from the Ron Burke barn and I’m expecting he’ll be looking to tighten him up with a fast mile. (1) NEW JERSEY VIKING came up with a big mile in his first start for this barn. Can he go with this crowd? At least if he can’t you get his entrymate as backup. (6) MAMBO LINDY qualified impressively with a strong late charge; I’m intrigued. (7) RUBBER DUCK has come up big here in the past. Race 7 (6) INVERSE HANOVER has taken care of business out west and now tries her luck here. Four-year-old has always hinted on big ability and while some of these might be getting a race under their belts, I expect she’ll be going all out. (5) PENPAL is a quality mare that is more than capable of winning this race if kept in striking range. (8) DARLINONTHEBEACH makes her 5-year-old debut for a new barn. She qualified well enough but seems likely to take it a bit easy in start #1. (3) COUSIN MARY has some speed and should be in play. Race 8 (5) U NEED STONES made a nice move in his qualifier but more importantly didn’t show any clear signs of the breaking issues from last year. There are a bunch of options in here. As long as he offers at least 3-1, I’ll try him. (6) LOVELY LYNNLY strangely elected to race from off the pace last time. Hopefully she is placed on the engine like she enjoys. (8) DONATOVER was super last week but post 9 presents some issues. (1) NATALIE HANOVER & (1A) FINAL DREAM are a capable pair from Svanstedt if ready off the bench. Race 9 (8) DR J’S KISS took a failed shot in the Burning Point but at least her connections thought it was worth a shot. She’s back at The Big M now and in a soft spot. (6) MATTJESTIC TEMPO rallied nicely two starts back but came up a bit flat last time. I’d like to see her kept closer to the action. (2) PASS LINE BLUECHIP should be forwardly placed and tighter in her second start back after a layoff. Race 10 (1) TOBER comes off a couple of decent miles and now gets a Hall of Famer in the bike. This is a tougher NW3500, but he seems like one of the ones to beat. (9) POSSESSED FASHION is way down in class and thus assigned post 9. He has the early speed to make the top or find early position. (5) FIJI would normally be a win player in this class. He might be looking at an exotics spot only this week. (2) WHATNBLAZES switches to Gingras and could improve. [DRF HARNESS NEWSLETTER: Sign Up for the FREE DRF Harness Newsletter. Fresh content and insights delivered each Thursday.]
