Spot Play: REAL BABE (12th)

Race 1

(6) A LA NOTTE HANOVER showed enough as a 2-year-old to think she can handle this group. Filly qualified okay and the Burke barn seems to be heating up. (10) UP FRONT ELIZABETH was sharp last week. I’m using her again despite the outside draw. (4) A AND GS DELIGHT chased #10 last time and should be forwardly placed.

Race 2

(6) INVESTOR VOLO only needs to stay trotting to win this week. That said, he is always a risky play. (3) RAGAZZO DOLCE has some ability but can’t seem to mind his manners. If you are looking for a big price, he is worth a flyer. (2) KING CITY qualifier was just okay; chance if ready.

Race 3

(3) WARRAWEE OLAY finds a field lacking in early speed and could be an interesting play since she figures to be sitting no worse than second. (10) HASTY PROFFITT seems to have his act together with hobbles added. If Joe Bongiorno can work out a trip, this gelding should have a shot. (8) FOX VALLEY LEGEND through in a clunker in the slop. Four starts back he flashed speed and raced well. Perhaps we’ll get those tactics tonight.

Race 4

(3) MISS MACHQUEEN was aggressive early and prevailed when last seen at this level. (4) UPFRONTWHOSURLADY ships in from Yonkers and moves from claimers to the bottom condition level. She has had previous success on bigger tracks. (2) DRAGON RUFFLES is another who scored her last win against C-2 types.

Race 5

None of these really jump off the page. I’m going to roll the dice with (10) WHEELS and hope that the drop in class is enough to counter the made draw. (2) SPECTATOR K is another getting class relief; has early speed. (9) RAVEN VICTORY stayed flat with hobbles added last time. Don’t be shocked if he shows more now.

Race 6

(1) AMERICAN IN PARIS proved she is the best in this series last week and deserves the repeat call. (5) PANERA HANOVER raced well in her first start since last June. It might not be until next week, but I believe she will make some noise in this series. (2) JK LETITGO suffered her first defeat of the year at the hoofs of my top choice last week.

Race 7

(2) WOMAN OF TERROR clearly needed the race after taking two months off. It seems she is moving in the right direction for new trainer Steve Elliott. (1A) ALWAYS ON A ROLL & (1) ABROKENART HANOVER both one in the elimination round and should be considered. (3) NUTMEGS CIDER pounced off cover last time; dangerous.

Race 8

(8) TIGER’S TOO GOOD has been super the previous two weeks against C-2 company. The waters get deeper on Friday, but he is too sharp to ignore. (2) TSM ORPHAN ANDY comes off a good effort from post 10 and has picked up his game lately. (4) HELIOS is always a threat but can break at any time. (5) JAILHOUSE SCORPION raced well in Amateur action; maybe.

Race 9

(4) MAJOR LOOK went a tough trip and stuck around nicely last week. She makes her third start of the year on Friday and should be ready for a peak performance. (5) ROBIN CRUISER is another making her third start back. She was used hard early and seems likely to get a better trip this time. (7) UF DRAGON’S QUEEN was facing some top competition in the Matchmaker series at Yonkers. This should be easier. (9) MACHAROUNDTHECLOCK also comes in from Yonkers; faces tougher.

Race 10

(3) ZUPPA INGLESE charged home last week for a barn that is finally starting to show some life after a quiet March. (7) NF HAPPENSTANCE stole a cheaper C-2 event last week but looked good doing it. (8) BLUEBIRD KIDSQUEEN has been an ATM this year; 10-for-10 in the money. (4) MONTANA SKIES has early speed and is an exotics must.

Race 11

(6) SHEBESTINGIN makes her 4-year-old debut against some inferior foes. Fastest female pacer in history only has one horse to fear. (5) SCANDALOUS HANOVER raced very well in her first start as an older pacing mare. She has a slight conditioning edge on the top choice. (7) CONTINUAL VELOCITY comes off a win but faces much tougher.

Race 12

(5) REAL BABE went up in smoke before the start when she broke last time. There is no doubt she is as fast or faster than most of tonight’s competition and this 5-year-old daughter of Donato Hnaover outdraws her main rivals. (9) WORLD CUP probably deserves to be the favorite, but for my money, something has been lacking in his recent miles. (8) WHATA DONATO was racing very well before the miscue last time. (7) DEWYCOLORINTHELINE could be a sneaky player at a price.

Race 13

(5) NOTREADYTOBENICE couldn’t close into some slow fractions last week. If new driver John Campbell can keep her close, she should win. (3) DON’T BLAME HER faded on the engine recently. This field came up very light and she does figure. (4) KAMKAR KUTIE & (1) KITTI PLACE are both mares to consider.
