Spot Play: SPLITSVILLE (9th)

Race 1

(4) BAMBINO GLIDE took care of business in round one action and deserves the call again. (3) MAGGLIO is certainly capable of stepping up if he minds his manners. (1) HLDONTGHTTOYURDRMS should be firing out from the cones and would be no surprise.

Race 2

(4) PAN LUIS OBISPO raced well chasing Summertime Lea in her qualifier and followed it up with a second-place finish behind a very sharp Somwherovrarainbow at 54-1. This 4-year-old mare has ability and finds a soft spot with most of the big gals at Yonkers. (6) JK LETITGO has started the year with a perfect record in five starts; hard to knock. (1) HOT LIST might perk up on the big track.

Race 3

(3) ASHES CASH was a good second after missing a few weeks of action. In this short field, he should be able to control the action. (4) AMIGO RANGER worked out a great trip and pounced last time; dangerous. (2) BANKER VOLO was used a bit too hard vying for the lead and made a break most recently. He certainly fits with the top two.

Race 4

(5) OMNIPOTENT raced well from the outside last time and has proven fast enough to win a B-2 event. (3) HELIOS has been a different horse since switching tactics to become an early speed type. (7) LEXIS AMIGO is the fastest trotter in the race, but he hasn’t been in a pari-mutuel race since last August.

Race 5

(4) ICOMMANDMYSPIRIT flashed late pace in her first try since September. In this wide open race, I give her a big shot if she steps up a bit. (5) SO NICE took plenty of tote action and got weary late in the mile; new driver this week. (1) TWIN B ELITE has been racing well.

Race 6

(7) WORLD CUP qualified well but was soundly defeated by a salty group of FFA trotters last week. This would seem like a prime spot for him to win. (3) SWEET JUSTICE is a fast gelding when on his game. Which horse shows up this week? (4) NOT AFRAID is at the right level this week and figures to make his presence felt.

Race 7

(6) WINDSUN FIREBALL was used hard in his first start for this barn then came back with a solid effort from an outside post. If he has a big mile in him, this would figure to be the week we’ll see it. (5) PAISLEY couldn’t be any sharper. (1) DON’T KNOW CHIP has been rallying nicely from the back; threat with a trip.

Race 8

This is a hard to figure race on paper. I could make a legitimate case for almost any of these mares. (4) ASSET MANAGEMENT hasn’t looked very good lately, but those miles are fast enough to think she could upset with the right trip. I’ll roll the dice at a big price. (6) MOJARRA HANOVER won at this level four starts back. (5) MISS MACHQUEEN steps up off a win for a barn that seems to big coming around. (2) DRAGON RUFFLES hasn’t proven capable of winning at this level in recent weeks; exotics threat.

Race 9

(7) SPLITSVILLE has proven capable of high speed at points in the mile and should take charge here if he doesn’t make a mistake. (8) BOADICEA HANOVER raced very well last year and now makes her 2014 debut. If she is ready, watch out. (4) SKYLINE ROAD figures to be forwardly placed in this spot.

Race 10

(5) FIRSTCLASSPRINCESS returns to the Meadowlands at a reduced level. When last seen here she was facing the likes of Banker Volo and Twin B Spikeman, who would crush this field. (8) FOUR STARZ SPEED comes off an improved try and seems ready to win. (7) PANAMANIAN HANOVER gets class relief. He is going to score here one of these days.

Race 11

This looks like an evenly matched bunch. (8) CULT STATUS raced well while caught in a fast mile following a long layoff. She should be tighter tonight. (3) MAJESTIC TODDY N returned to the races with Lasix added and had no shot from post 10. Don’t be shocked if she wakes up in a hurry. (2) JANIE BAY drops back down to the level where she recently finished second. (6) ARIA J bested the former with a rail-skimming drive in her last C-1 effort.
