Meadowlands: Friday 3/16 Analysis

MEET STATS: 94 - 329 / $702.80

Best Bet: JUST A GLIMPSE (2nd)     Spot Play: AFTER MIDNIGHT (3rd)

Race 1

(8) WOODY MARVEL lit up the board after the trainer change to Mark Ford. This field came up very soft; again. (4) ANDOVERSURE & (5) CATHYS PRINCESS are both coming off breaks, but have each shown the ability to go a faster mile than any of these have seen in a while, if ever. (3) WYGANT PEARL is winless but usually gets a piece.

Race 2

(5) JUST A GLIMPSE seems to have put her breaking issues behind her. She posted a big mile last week and should control the action again. (2) TUI SEI BELLA chased the winner last time and will do so again unless she finds more in the tank. (4) CRUZIN ANGEL also needs to find another gear if she wants to win.

Race 3

(7) AFTER MIDNIGHT has shown a nice progression in her first two trips to the track. I like the way they stretched her out a bit last week and I would expect a bit more improvement tonight. (9) FUNNY FASHION took air last week and held well. She is a clear player that has to overcome a bad draw. (5) FEEGEE has speed and two of the major contenders drew outside; tactical edge. (8) MISS CHIP K rallied nicely off cover; threat with trip.

Race 4

(2) WEEKEND UPDATE shipped in from Illinois and was a bit short. This gal paced a 1:51 4/5 mile last year and could be tighter now that she is acclimated to her new surroundings. (7) GOTTASEEABOUTAGIRL charged past the field last time. She will have to overcome a likely slow pace tonight. (1) CS KENTUCKY has early zip from the cones and could control the action.

Race 5

(4) CAMERON CHIP does his best work when chasing a target and she should have some live cover with the favorites to her inside. Veteran mare is fast enough to beat these and certain to offer value. (8) HES SPOOKY showed improvement time-wise from his first to second start of 2012. This guy has always raced better near the lead and seems likely to gun with $82k on the line tonight. (2) FOUNTAINBLEAU VOLO is clearly the one to beat but far from a lock. He should be tested in this spot. (3) HERE COMES NUMBERS could not have looked better last week; huge threat.

Race 6

(8) IN FOCUS raced well considering the trip last week. Pierce jumps in the bike now and all systems should be on go. (5) BABY BLAZE was racing well before last week’s break and Dave Miller has had success with him. (4) MMS LUCKY BOY took a shot first-over and tired last time. He should fit at this level. (2) VC CHOCOHOLIC has talent but may need one start.

Race 7

(3) LOVE YOU ALWAYS was handled patiently last week and closed well. She drops a bit tonight and finds a perfect spot. (10) CUZ SHE CAN is a classy mare who is good enough to overcome the bad draw. (1) WHATS NEW PUSSYCAT couldn't rally into the slow pace last time.

Race 8

(6) ZUEREST ships over in fine form for Ron Burke. (2) MANNINGLY is clear the one to beat if he decides to trot today. (9) SHINING EMBER posted a nice qualifier with the addition of hobbles. Can that be the answer to this guy’s issues?

Race 9

(2) COTTON CANDY has done well at this level and finds a field without much early speed; should suit her nicely. (10) NITE GAMES is another who could benefit from a slow early pace. She could gun out and spice up the exotics. (5) SOUTHWEST pounced off cover last time. (8) CMYBEST closed well to just miss last week; Tetrick drives.

Race 10

(6) AX MAN has been in much tougher spots lately. Don't be shocked if he finds early speed out of nowhere and wires the field, or just races better. (5) UP FRONT BEN had a tough trip in his Miller barn debut; more now? (8) NOT AFRAID was awesome in the Singer Final. That said, he faces older foes now and this is clearly just a maintenance mile for him.

Race 11

(10) IVANA DANCE is the rare horse that gets Sears to hang around for the last race on the card. I don’t like any of the others in here, so I’m going to hang my hat on that angle. (6) PRINCESS MCARDLE N beat up on lesser last time. (9) MCFLIRTY drops in search of a win.
