Best Bet: JUSTIFIED (11th) Spot Play: GIRLLOOKATTHATBODY (3rd) Race 3 - $25,000 Guaranteed Pick Five Pool Race 8 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool MEET STATS: 89 - 348 / $598.10 (-$97.90) BEST BETS: 10 - 27 / $35.90 (-$18.10) Race 1 (3) TROPICAL STORM BI comes with some questions as to whether he is ready after two months off, but I think he’s worth a flyer because if ready he’s best. (5) PARTY ON THE RIVER comes off a second in the amateur ranks and reunites with Roy Marohn. (6) LANDONFITZ had no chance last week from the outside post. (9) HERE COMES NUMBERS was rewarded with post 9 after marching down the road a week ago; tough task this week. Race 2 (8) BREAK FREE is in a great spot this week after facing tougher. Last time he was stuck behind a tired foe and when angled off the cones he was impeded slightly causing the break. I’d love to see Miller put the pedal to the metal from the word GO. (5) L DEES MIA comes off a sparkling qualifier on paper but she was bearing in slightly in the lane. I’m very worried she’ll be overbet while taking off the pace; bad combination. (9) JAILHOUSE CJ makes his second start off the bench and could improve. Race 3 (5) GIRLLOOKATTHATBODY flashed early speed last week, which is a clear sign that she is coming into form now. Six-year-old drops to the basement condition and should have every chance to shine. (2) BLUSH HANOVER finished just a length behind the top pick last time. (1) DUNESIDE LIFE can stay close from the cones and get into the exotics. (6) PURITY is capable if he can turn it around. Race 4 (6) DANISH DURANGO wasn’t exactly loaded with trot last week in an amateur race but that was his first start in three months. Veteran picks up a catch-driver this week and could shine in this bottom condition race. (5) BELL A CHICK split foes with trot in his first start in a year; capable with a decent trip. (3) MASSIVE LIGHTNING has been closing well. Can he show tactical speed? (1) MR LOVER adds Gingras. (2) COMMENTARY raced best from off the pace and could change tactics here. Race 5 (3) BILLIE BLUE gets a major driver change to Napolitano and seems worth a try at 4-1 or higher. (1) TROUBLE RIEU N is clearly sharp, perhaps enough to handle this bump in class. (5) FIJI faded with Lasix added after showing plenty of early speed. Sometimes it takes a start for the medication to kick in. Race 6 (2) CHARMBRO CURIOSITY gets away from sharper claimers to face this mostly formless group. (6) WILLIE BOOTS closed well a week ago in this class. (1) SUPER S YZERMAN doesn’t strike fear into many but does follow well and could get into the number at a price. Race 7 (6) MONTALBANO BI is down in class this week and should have every opportunity to win, but don’t accept less than 2-1. (5) WAITING ON A WOMAN finished a couple of lengths behind the top choice while coming out of the same race but starting from an outside post; clearly capable. (3) YOU’RE MAJESTIC should flash early speed and get a nice check. Race 8 (1) PIERCEWAVE HANOVER steps up off a nice mile from post nine and seems to fit nicely with this field. The switch to Brett Miller only helps the cause. (4) UPFRONT BILLY does his best work down a level but is far from outclassed this week. He could offer value with Pantaleano driving. (3) GOLDEN TATE has a win and a second in this class in the last four starts. (6) ROSSINI steps up off a convincing win. Race 9 Let me start by saying I don’t have a strong opinion in this race and will be spreading deep in my pick four tickets. (1) PERSEVERANT picks up Gingras and seems to be sharp enough to win. (5) YANKEE HEAVEN raced evenly after showing early speed versus better last time. (4) SOUTHERN PURSUIT N has plenty of early speed and could go a long way. (7) NORTHERN ASSASSIN A is facing much softer foes this week but his recent efforts don’t inspire me to rush to the windows. Race 10 (7) IT REALLY MATTERS flashed good speed when last seen but was backed out to last by a tired horse in front of him. He returns at a reduced level (though not necessarily much easier) and has a big shot. (2) JUSTICE JET couldn’t get involved from outside posts in the amateur ranks. I can make a serious case that he’s the horse to beat. (4) WORTH THE MONEY AS seems comfortable in this NW5000 class. Race 11 This is another tricky race. The horses which are taking the biggest drop in class are all stuck on the outside of the gate. I see early speed being key to victory and (2) JUSTIFIED should have no trouble coming away close to the action for a barn that has done well during the meet. (5) MAGIC TRICKS is capable of firing off the gate and Napolitano tends to do well the first time he drives a horse. (8) ALONEINSPADES, (10) BOTTOM DEALS & (7) TYLER are the class droppers; all are capable. Race 12 (6) DOMINUS HANOVER drops down in class in his third start for this barn. Maybe trainer Jordan Derue figures him out. He won’t have to do much to beat this field. (5) HE’S GONE can certainly win if he trots but neither of us know if that will happen. (3) ROSE RUN QUICKLEY couldn’t keep up in his comeback qualifier but was facing an Open-type in that race. Race 13 (5) KEYSTONE RIPTIDE has a bit of class to her and gets post relief to going along with facing softer this time. (9) CHEYENNE ROBIN is another dropper and she picks up Gingras. (1) PHYLLIS JEAN closed well in her third start back and draws better now. (2) PLAYING FAVORITES wasn’t bad in her qualifier and trainer Mark Silva has a way of reviving horses like this one.
