Spot Play: WORLD CUP (8th)

Race 1

(9) WEDNESDAYS WHIM had every reason to be beaten last week getting parked a half mile and taking on pressure. Four-year-old faces a similar group and may prove more value this week. (6) UBETTORBETURLIFE caught pace late after lagging on the rim in her Meadowlands debut. (1) ALWAYS ON A ROLL raced well in her first trip off a layoff and figures for improvement here.

Race 2

(8) SIMONE HALL can be excused for a lackluster performance against perhaps the best trotter on the grounds. Mare drops to the basement and may revert to previous form. (4) CELEBRITY LOVIN gets the Gingras vote of confidence. (7) RULES LITTLE MAN has speed when flat and is in good hands.

Race 3

(10) SMOKE PAN MIRRORS just may have too much class for these. Seven-year-old picks up Gingras and most definitely can overcome the draw. (5) LIZ'S LIL K K showed some resilience grinding on the rim last time. Five-year-old needs to find cover. (2) GODDESS'S ROSA finally gets a break in the draw and should be in striking position.

Race 4

(5) HELIOS made the most of what for three quarters of a mile looked like a trip around the track. Muscles Yankee-sired gelding hasn't been the most reliable but when he's on his game should be better than a C-1 trotter. (2) MUSCOLO may appreciate the move to the big track. (10) MACS BAD BOY takes a meaningful drop in class and you can expect Simons to be firing from this spot.

Race 5

(5) MATTIE TERROR GIRL has really found her niche over the last month for Alagna. Western Terror-sired mare doesn't face that much tougher than the group she beat from post ten last week. (7) FAST AND FIESTY should benefit from the drop in class. (2) NEVERMIND FRANCO N is another that has come to life in the last week weeks.

Race 6

(3) SWEET JUSTICE will be facing his most difficult challenge since arriving in New Jersey. Trainer Bruce Saunders' charge gets a break in post position and may get the advantage of sitting off a contested pace. (8) QUICK DEAL is an extremely fast horse when he minds his manners behind the gate. (9) DAYLON MAGICIAN makes his first start in more than a year. A winner of in excess of $1.6 million lifetime he certainly has the class to overcome the outside assignment.

Race 7

(6) LORRIE PLEASE went an awesome trip after getting caught out the duration. Veteran mare shows up each week and is hard to fault. (9) RAMALAMA has won three of four races since leaving the Burke stable. Five-year-old has been in sparkling form at Yonkers. (7) KEEPERS DESTINY suffered the consequences of an extended backstretch move last week coming up a little short on the wire. Driver Dave Miller had no choice last week but may look to work out an easier trip here.

Race 8

(4) WORLD CUP had a great year in 2013 facing top competition in Pennsylvania. Five-year-old gets a favorable draw in a wide-open group and may be value for young Bongiorno. (7) HERE COMES NUMBERS suffered the consequences of not leaving from the rail in last. Ontario-bred may be better suited with an angle towards the first turn. (3) COWGIRL HALL looks for her third straight since joining the Burke stable.

Race 9

(8) KZ BEACH GIRL has the tactical speed necessary to overcome the draw. Four-year-old is in rare form. (1) JANIE BAY sizzled the middle half last week and that cost her in the stretch. Mare is much better suited for a cover trip. (3) NARANCIA HANOVER has been firing on all cylinders for Saunders and seems the horse to beat.

Race 10

(7) TEMPLE OF DOOM came up short in his first start in five months. Classy veteran should be pointed towards the lead in this field void of early speed. (5) ELLISARRO HANOVER was second best to a sharp winner last time and hails from a solid stable. (4) VAYA CON DIOS has been coming to hand in Pennsylvania for Toscano and figures closely at this level.

Race 11

(6) LOCAL ART showed some life upon dropping to this level. Six-year-old moves inside some and may line up third over. (9) OLE MISS was given an easy trip in her return and may be more than meets the eye. (3) SPIRIT OF DESIRE gets a big driver change back to Callahan and must be respected.

Race 12

(2) FOR YOU ALMOSTFREE appears to get a break in classification upon arriving from Yonkers and is in top hands. (3) PEMBROKE HEAT WAVE was in obvious need of a race last week and should be much better this week. (1) PERFECT PICTURE has been racing competitively at a high level at Yonkers.

Race 13

(2) ENDURING DELIGHT drops to a more reasonable level after an even mile and figures to get support. (1) DON'T BLAME HER was hard-used challenging in a quick mile last out and tired with good reason. Now eleven-year-old is dangerous from this spot. (4) MYSTICAL DIVA definitely fits this class very well.
