Best Bet: BRONZE OVER N (10th) Spot Play: K JS CAROLINE (6th) Race 3 - $25,000 Guaranteed Pick Five Pool Race 8 - $50,000 Guaranteed Pick Four Pool MEET STATS: 42 - 138 / $233.50 (-$42.50) BEST BETS: 7 - 11 / $23.50 (+$1.50) Race 1 (6) ZANE HANOVER looked to have some promise at one point in her career but never quite produced on the track. Now in a new barn, she has put together two solid efforts and finds herself a very soft spot this week. (10) NOT SO SWEET seems to have enough early speed to overcome the outside post. Filly hasn’t had much luck with many outside posts since moving into the Cohen barn. (8) SHAREN HANOVER tends to land a big share of the purse every week but I’m not sure I want to back her at shorter odds. Race 2 (6) MORE THAN TALK moves into the Ron Burke barn and doesn’t exactly face a group of monsters. I’m expecting at least modest improvement. (10) ELEVENTEEN has early speed to fire her off the gate. I do wish she had a catch-driver as well. (2) LOTHARIO kept his act together last week, which is a step in the right direction; keeps improving? (9) REGAL HILL is off a win at this level, but that came from an inside post. Race 3 (2) INUCHUK CHUCK kicked in very nicely late in his recent qualifying mile. Four-year-old has a bit of ability and could be a sneaky contender here in his first start since July. (8) DRIVING MISS CRAZY won that same qualifier that the top choice came out of and did it in hand; outside post and recent breaking issues are concerning, though. It may be too much to ask of (7) TWICE TOO NICE to think of her as a win candidate, but this field is soft enough that a board spot at big odds is very attainable. (6) TAPIT picks up a catch-driver this week. Race 4 (7) CAM’S LUCKY SAM was my best bet last week and never made it to the track due to transportation issues. Admittedly this might be a slightly more difficult spot, but I see no reason not to expect a solid effort. (1) BUCKEYE IN CHARGE finally came up with an improved effort last week. Against this dull group, he should be able to compete again. (8) WILLIE BOOTS gets post and class relief upon arrival; has a win here this year. (5) QUALITY BUD also rallied nicely last time. Race 5 (8) BLOWNOUTOFTHEWATER seems to be moving in the right direction for new trainer Jenny Bier. His PP lines say there is some ability here and I think we’ll see a big mile. (7) MASSIVE LIGHTNING closed well in the amateur ranks and looks like a great fit here. (9) NEW JERSEY VIKING has yet to live up to his potential. Class drop today means a short price. Race 6 (9) K J’S CAROLINE posted an even mile while up in class last week. Seven-year-old has the early speed and class to pull off an upset. (3) MCACE OF ARTS should get a clear run at the front moving to an inside post. If she is sitting the pocket without working hard early, watch out! (4) SHESGOTTHEBEAT has been closing well on the half and now tries her luck on the big track. (2) DOUBLE JOY comes off a decent mile here last Thursday. Race 7 (2) ZOOMING was used to the lead and paid the price in his last outing. He moves to the inside of the gate now and gets another chance from me. (6) IRON MINE JOHNNY has been racing well at Philly versus good competition and should be very competitive tonight. (10) GOLDEN TATE arrives for a Brett Derue barn that is having a spectacular meet and this guy brings plenty of form with him. (3) FLEET BUMBLEBEE upset at 32-1 when last seen here in this class; contender. Race 8 (2) LIGHTNING MACH N has seen nothing but half and five-eighth tracks since arriving from New Zealand, and I’m not so sure those suit her mostly off-the-pace style. Let’s see what she can do on the big track. (4) CAROBBEAN PACETRY was a solid second last time and figures to be forwardly placed with a chance to win once again. (5) VEGAS IN STYLE broke in her debut for this barn; another chance. (8) COUSIN MARY has speed and form. She won last week but faces tougher here. Race 9 (1) ELYSIUM LINDY got his act together with hobbles and blazed down the road in his first start for the Burke barn. This spot is a good test for how good he is but I wouldn’t accept a price below 3-1. (6) TYCOON SEELSTER comes down from Saratoga with form for a barn that is hitting at 25% in 2017. (2) GO BYEM has been racing well at Dover and picks up a hot driver in Brett Miller. (7) MONTALBANO BI has Marohn back in the bike; dangerous. (3) BEE IN CHARGE blew away weaker last time and seems to have the talent to handle these if he has turned the corner. Race 10 (5) BRONZE OVER N was sharp in the stretch during his latest qualifier while patiently handled as she stayed along the cones. Down Under import lands in a decent spot and could make some noise at first asking here. (6) SET ME UP gets some class relief upon arrival for the powerful Burke stable; must use. (8) SPILLING THE BEANS didn’t miss a beat for her new connections last time and may just be sharp enough to handle another jump in class. (4) FREE SHOW is well spotted to get into the exotics. Race 11 (4) MOTOWN JACKPOT is another sharp Saratoga shipper for a barn that is hitting at 25% during the meet. This one seems to be in a great spot. (2) IRON DOME has won two straight versus easier foes. (5) TYMAL REIGN weakened in the stretch versus much better conditioned foes last time. She is a must use against this field. Race 12 (7) WRIGHTWOOD was a killer in the Snowflake series at Saratoga and the bigger track here should suit his off-the-pace style. The fact that he drops in for a tag to race in this cheaper class tells me he’ll be primed for a big effort. (6) BLACK BROADWAY has been in tougher spots than this in recent weeks at Philly. (9) HOT SUMMER KNIGHT gets out of the second tier this week and could be gunning off the gate this week; capable. Race 13 (9) TALBOT CHANEL is on a roll now for new trainer Burke and seems to have found the right field to continue the good times. (5) TWIN B ONAROLL romped versus easier at Monticello, but I don’t think he is that much slower than this bunch; longshot possibilities. (2) ROCKN OPIUM arrives for a good percentage barn in a decent spot. Race 14 (1) I’M SID THE KID is one of many somewhat formless horses in this field. Eight-year-old has some early speed in his arsenal and the inside post to show it for a barn that can send them out ready when in good spots. (2) ROYAL OUTLOOK has looked good when he has drawn well. (6) AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL comes in with a string of decent efforts and a near 50% career on the board record. (5) CHARMBO CURIOSITY raced well from off the pace two starts back and figures to change to those tactics here. [DRF HARNESS NEWSLETTER: Sign Up for the FREE DRF Harness Newsletter.
