BEST BETS: 6 - 9 / $19.10 (+$1.10)

Race 1

(1) DOC’S BOY can’t seem to buy a clean trip lately. This spot is as soft as they come and he gets no excuses for possible failure. (2) HEIGHTENED SCRUTINY moves into a new barn. That angle alone makes him worth a look. (7) ROADSHOW VIC drops a notch but this is actually a huge step down the class ladder; worth a look.

Race 2

(1) BLUE GROTTO qualified back well enough to think she can be up to speed against this weak group. There really isn’t any horse to be excited about in here. (8) RICKY’S QUICKIE has the early speed to overcome the outside post. Unfortunately she tends to settle for more minor shares. (2) ESCAPE AGAIN won her career debut; why not again?

Race 3

(8) IDEAL SHADOW is quick away from the gate and likely to be flying early for Callahan. I’ll give him the narrow edge on the price angle since (5) SHOW ME UP will likely get overbet despite beating only a few foes last time in the snow. (7) BRICKMAN is supposed to race well at this level, but seeing his claiming tag cut in half is concerning.

Race 4

(6) IRON DOME romped in this class last week and should prove tough again. (8) LADY EAGLE comes off a steady effort and certainly figures here, at least underneath. (1) LOTHARIO has some ability but also a bad breaking problem. (5) WIRED HANOVER should use his early speed to make the top and could last for a big share.

Race 5

(6) ROGER MACH EM was used to the front and tired from an outside post last time. Let’s give him another shot moving in a couple of slots on the gate. (8) ELRAMA N is a horse I want to see on the lead and hopefully new pilot Ginsburg will place him on the point. (4) THE ROCK put in a decent qualifier for a solid barn. He can go with this group if ready. (3) ALL IT TAKES lured Brett Miller off three others.

Race 6

(4) ROUNDTOWN ROCKER was under a hold behind horses entering the stretch last out and found room late to finish willingly with no shot. A class drop and inside post should only help his chances here. (3) WATKINS didn’t fire in the snow; not holding that against him. (6) QUICK DEAL bumps up off a win but is plenty fast enough when feeling good.

Race 7

(8) COUSIN MARY has picked up her game with Lasix added and might have won while up in class last week with a better trip. She should prove very tough in this spot. (3) STUDIO ONE & (2) FREE SHOW are two others dropping one level; either could wake up with a top effort. (1) MELANIES SHARKETTE & (1A) MONICA GALLAGHER form a capable entry with some form.

Race 8

(2) CAULFIELD closed well when clear last week and while he seems to be coming into form gets to drop in class; expecting a big mile. (3) LAUDERDALE could wake up with a strong mile at any time. (9) MOONLIGHT COCKTAIL finished a length behind the top pick last week and now gets the same drop in company; outside post hurts. (10) SOUTH SIDE HANOVER can fire off the gate; using underneath only.

Race 9

(5) DANDY’S BEAUTY sports a few even efforts in a row while racing two classes higher. She should wake up here. (2) MADE OF JEWELS AS shouldn’t have to work as hard this week from the inside post to gain valuable early position. (8) MCACE OF ARTS has the class to take this race down if feeling good. (1) UNBEAMLIEVEABLE is fast enough to win if she can find a way to finish her mile.

Race 10

(1) STARSABOVEALLERAGE is a bit of a feel play for me here. I think he can stay closer to the action from the inside post and shake free for a big piece at a price. (6) BEE IN CHARGE has stayed flat since adding hobbles; drops tonight. (5) WILDFLOWER raced well after a month on the shelf; more now? (3) SWEET JESSE T gets a driver change.

Race 11

(1) LAST DRAGON has a catch-driver back in the bike while facing a very weak field; no excuses. (4) A AND C ARTIST is not as bad as his last effort. (3) YOUDA SHARK has been just even at Dover. Maybe the driver change will shake him up. (6) IDEAL DANNY raced OK from an outside post last time; moves in a few slots tonight.
