Meadowlands: Boston Red Rocks wins Governor's Cup

Boston Red Rocks (Tim Tetrick) proved an easy winner.

Tim Tetrick won the Breeders Crown with Boston Red Rocks coming from far off the pace. On Saturday night the driver changed his strategy but got the same results winning the $413,000 Governor's Cup for 2-year-old pacers. The son of the late Rocknroll Hanover left alertly from post eight and then brushed to the front at the half cruising to a 1:50 3/5 career best effort.

Big Top Hanover, second choice in the field of ten, jetted to the front seating rival Katies Rocker through the :27 opening quarter. Yannick Gingras had no problem yielding the top to the winner approaching the :55 opening half and from that point there was essentially no outer tier flow.

Boston Red Rocks, trained by Steve Elliott, kept the pace strong clicking an individual third quarter in :27 3/5 and keeping the pocket sitter at a distance. In the stretch Boston Red Rocks, owned by Peter Blood and Rick Berks, powered away with Katies Rocker closing late for second and Big Top Hanover earning third.

Ideal Rocky and J K Will Power rallied for the final two checks.

"I knew I had to be forwardly placed," said Tetrick. "Yannick was content to let me go and I took no prisoners."

Boston Red Rocks has won four of his nine starts this year and upped his career bankroll to $558,530 as the even-money choice.
