MEET STATS: 18 - 91 / $186.80
Best Bet: SILVER DELIVERY (4th) Spot Play: I GOT SKILLS (2nd)
Race 1
(5) REDWHITENBLUESTONE is the big IF in the race. If he can make it past the start and remain trotting, she has a huge shot of winning. I love the fact that Gingras drives. I find him to be one of the better trotter guys. (6) ANDDIDITMYWAY will probably take more action than #5 because this is a Team Miller student. Not sure I love that he was kept so far back in that last qualifier. (7) PARIS KENTUCKY was facing better when last on the track.
Race 2
(4) I GOT SKILLS hails from a barn that has started the meet off nicely. Her recent qualifier doesn't stick out on paper, but it was a useful effort where she came home with good energy. In this formless field, she is as good as any. (2) ANNIKA S could destroy this field or finished dead last. I'm not sure what to make of her latest awful qualifier. (1) THE SWEET DION moves back inside and should get at least a piece of the pie. (3) M A JACKIE can compete with these when on her game. Ratray in the bike should ensure a healthy price.
Race 3
(10) JAMIE SUE raced against some good NYSS fillies last year, which is more than any of these can say. She sticks out for me on paper but I stop short of making her a lock because who knows how hard she will be used from post 10 following a three month layoff. (8) GOTTASEEABOUTAGIRL has done nothing wrong after one career start; obvious player. (4) WYGANT BELLE gets away from post 8 at Yonkers. That should help.
Race 4
(4) SILVER DELIVERY was on a roll in November and December at Saratoga, and this barn one a race here last week. I watched his qualifier and he looked a bit impatient sitting behind a gapper and was well within himself in the stretch. (3) DOLCE DUCCI comes with a breaking risk. If he trots . . . (5) SCENT OF OIL was my early thought for a top pick, but that qualifier looks much better on paper than it was visually. That was a three-horse race and he needed to be kept to task in the lane. At 1 for 28 lifetime, you can have the short price.
Race 5
(5) REI OF SUNSHINE impressed me on 1-12 because I wasn't expecting her to be versatile enough to rough it first over and hang in for second. She gets my top call for two reasons: 1) She will be a good price; 2) She is perfectly drawn to the outside of two solid contenders and will have the choice of leaving or waiting for likely live cover. (4) CRUZIN ANGEL was much better winning round two. While I think she may have the most raw talent, I'm not impressed enough to take her if the price is short. (3) DEVINE FILLY has raced very well in all three Meadowlands starts this year and is a must use on most tickets. (10) MISS BEHAVE Will have a hard time getting a sweet trip from post 10.
Race 6
(5) MY MAN was the most impressive qualifier during the divisional rounds in my mind. Owner/driver Yannick Gingras sent him down the road and this 4yo posted an impressive effort. (4) BUZZ BOMB finally appears to be finding himself. I think he will keep moving forward and might just be ready to step up to win this final. (2) DONTEVENKNOWMYMAME benefitted from a fast pace last week. She rates a chance but I don't like her as the favorite. (6) GLIDE TO VICTORY won a leg already and certainly has a shot.
Race 7
(6) BANGBANGKISSKISS comes off a pair of nice qualifiers and lures David Miller off the other logical players in here. (4) JAZZMATIC HANOVER comes off a nice win. Campbell is sticking around to drive this guy before heading home. (10) UPFRONT COUNTRYBOY has gone some races that would be competitive with this group.
Race 8
(3) LAYTON SEELSTER picks up Andy Miller off a useful qualifier. I'll take a shot at a nice price. (1) BIG PUFF DOGGIE has been a different horse in morning action since the claim. (9) LOCKRIDGE is another getting a catch-driver; maybe.
Race 9
(3) TRUST MY HEART drops down and faces a mostly formless bunch. (4) I LUV IT raced well in most recent after missing five weeks; more tonight? (7) ARIANE HANOVER showed some life with a nice move last time.
Race 10
(1) JK KINAHURRA changes barns and faces a suspect bunch; narrow call. (3) REAL PLATINUM raced well off the bench last time. Barn has been cold, though. (2) LASTCOMICSTANDING should push away from the gate and sit close.
Best Bets
Making just his second start of the year, Lanson gave notice at Philadelphia that he is about to return to form. He put in a nice uncovered mile and held well to be beaten by less than a length. He returns to the Meadowlands now and catches a decent group that includes possibly the leading player for this year’s Hambletonian. That said, he is as fast or faster than any of these and should be primed for a big effort.
