Meadowlands: Analysis of the stakes undercard on Pace night

Race 2 - Stanley Dancer Memorial -  1st division

With the Hambletonian just a few weeks away trainer Jimmy Takter has what appears to be the favorite in Uncle Peter. The likely favorite in the first $150,500 Dancer division probably put in his best career mile in defeat in the Beal Memorial at Pocono. Mired behind dull cover and facing an incredible speed bias, the colt showed raw speed and determination before finally throwing in the towel on the final turn. He bounced back with a solid mile last week and seems on course now. Appomattox hails from a stable that begins to turn the screws on their horses around this time of year. Banker Volo has done nothing wrong thus far and is certainly in live hands.

Selections: 2 - 4 - 7

Race 4 - Meadowlands Pace consolation

Dull cover may have cost Hurrikane Kingcole a spot in the final but he can make amends with a victory in the Meadowlands Pace consolation. This son of Cams Card Shark looked like a world beater two starts back and suddenly has become an also ran. In a short field and with Gingras now in the bike his quick burst should be all that’s necessary in this short field. Mel Mara is at his best in one-run situations and must be feared in this small group. Bettors Edge is placed for part.

Selections: 2 - 3 - 1

Race 5 - Mistletoe Shalee final

The Mistletoe Shalee has been historically a race that has provided some major upsets in the three-year-old pacing filly division. That’s why Major Look appears too attractive. The lone filly to beat American Jewel this year, Major Look moves into Kevin McDermott’s barn and that may be all she needs to reignite. Her rival, the likely 1-5 favorite has been virtually flawless with quickness and heart. Shelliscape paid the price for a wicked first quarter in her last start. She’s a better closer and the post will aid those chances.

Selections: 2 - 7 - 3

Race 9 - Sanley Dancer Memorial - 2nd division

Two less turns is all that Googoo Gaagaa should need in the second division of the Dancer. This year’s Cinderella story blew up in the Yonkers Trot losing his footing twice in the same spot on the clubhouse turn. He should bounce back in a big way with longer straightaways. Little Brown Fox hails from a solid trotting stable and appears to be heading in the right direction. Gym Tan Laundry showed speed and heart north of the border and figures to be in good striking position.

Selections: 7 - 6 - 1

Race 12 - Del Miller Memorial

Post position is finally on the side of Personal Style. The New Jersey Sire Stakes champion is as sharp as any soph filly and need only a little softening of the favorites to upset. Check Me Out’s ambition of racing in the Hambletonian will likely move forward or backward based on her performance in this division. Last year the daughter of Donato Hanover was without equal. This year some of the others appear to have caught up with her. Win Missy B has the speed but her size seems to be a shortcoming on the big track.

Selections: 1 - 6 - 5
