Meadowlands Analysis: Saturday 1/21/12

(MEET STATS: 13 - 58 / $163.20)

Best Bet: GREAT VINTAGE (8th)  Spot Play: KEEP GOING (2nd)

Race 1

(2) NATHAN FEELSGOOD posted a steady mile while chasing a pedestrian pace. That was his first start in three months and some improvement seems very possible. Perhaps he can pull off the upset on the likely 3-5 favorite and three-headed monster from the Burke barn. (1A) RISK MANAGEMENT closed nicely into the red hot Itrustyou last week; big threat. (5) JOLTIN COLT should be able to make the top a bit easier this week; chance.

Race 2

Normally I don't let myself get sucked into these driver change selections, but I've seen what (6) KEEP GOING can do with a catch-driver (1:49.3 lifetime best with Gingras driving). Not only that, Sears chose off #7 to drive this guy. That is a big vote of confidence! I'll roll the dice at a sweet price. (1A) ITRUSTYOU scored his eighth straight last week and was gutsy in victory. He won't go down without a fight. (7) STONEBRIDGE ROCKET made two moves last week and held very well. I give this guy a big shot.

Race 3

(8) LETS GETIT STARTED dropped down last time and showed some life. Now he drops again and adds Sears. (4) MYSOONTOBE has posted some fast miles at times. Maybe he is ready for a big one after that strong qualifier. (6) GOOSE CREEK was awful in the snow most recently. I'm going to ignore that and expect a better effort.

Race 4

(1) ANNIESWESTERNCARD gets away from the super-sharp Golden Receiver; narrow edge now. (6) SILENT SWING is a speedster in raging form. (2)BLATANTLY GOOD was better last week. He is working his way back into form.

Race 5

(5) LOOKINFORADVENTURE had a useful trip around the track last week. He should be ready to step up now. (2) POKER HAT always likes it here when in the Jordan Rubin barn. The class rise should not be a problem. (9) SKY TANTRUM gets a major driver change. (6) KID CARSON wasn't bad upon arrival; Sears drives.

Race 6

(3) VILLAGE BEAT has been razor sharp since leaving Canada and apparently that has something to do with the strict whipping rules up north. Recent $120k purchase is a bit lazy and needs some reminders to get going. (7) WARNING ZONE fired off a big mile last week and is capable of going back to back. (6) ROCK TO GLORY posts a good mile every week. (1) TRANSCENDING & (2) ANDY ROO are both capable with the right trip.

Race 7

(6) NEW RELEASE showed pace at both ends of the mile from an outside post last week. This guy loves to win and seems to have found a decent spot. (3) NOBLE FALCON was rolling to the front as my best bet when he broke last week. He has a big shot once again. (1) SMELLTHECOLORNINE drops down for a good barn. (10) BAY OF SHARKS steps up in fine form.

Race 8

(5) GREAT VINTAGE was used hard in his first start since August and somehow paced in 1:49.4. That was a big mile off the bench. He should be ready for a win now. (7) RUTHLESS ACE closed well last time and is a threat if the pace gets crazy-fast. (3) SAMANDAR was a solid 3yo. Let's see how he handles the older ranks.

Race 9

(1) MASTER STROKE drops back down to the level of the claim and his last win. (6) DEAR MAC also drops, and has the early speed to gain good position. (5) WHITE MOUNTAIN TOP is another who scored a victory at the $30k level. (7) WESTERN TRADEMARK is fast if he is ready.

Race 10

(4) GOLDEN RECEIVER is now the fastest January horse in harness history. I see him controlling the action once again. (3) ROCKIN THE HOUSE was shuffled out to last while showing pace at both ends of the mile. (2) RIVER SHARK was super last week; clear threat.

Race 11

(6) BONDY N made a ton of money Down Under and tries the U.S. at the ripe old age of 11. Seems to me an 11-year-old is not making the long journey unless he is expected to do some damage pretty quickly. (4) PSILVUHEARTBREAKER went too fast on the engine and stopped accordingly. Not sure why Campbell chose off, but happy to have Sears in the bike. (1) RESCUE PLAN has been racing well.

Race 12

(8) MAY I SAY was aimed way too high off the bench. This spot may still be too tough for him, but I'll roll the dice. (6) GETONTHEWAY has a knack for closing out the exotics. (5) MAJOR AT HEART seems to have been keeping better company.
