Meadowlands Analysis: Friday 1/27/12

MEET STATS: 18 - 91 / $186.80

Best Bet: HIGHER AND HIGHER (8th)   Spot Play:  HEZ DA MAN N (9th)

Race 1

(8) TOUCH ME has been his own worst enemy. He enters a new barn which has been doing well early in the meet. Perhaps they have him figured out after a nice morning effort. (1) WHEELS wasn’t bad in his Schnittker barn debut. Tetrick taking over the lines doesn’t hurt. (2) SYENITE double-drops in class after a tough mile on the engine last time. He is better than that effort. (4) PAY ME SISTER is another getting class relief.

Race 2

(6) HANKS KID ships in and has form. Gelding stacks up favorably against this field. (7) ITSGOTTABEMYWAY drops in for a tag after an uncharacteristic break last time. Don’t be shocked if this guy perks up. (3) BORDER FIGHTING has had some trouble lasting the mile. Even so, he is a must on your exotic tickets. (9) FRANKTHEBANK came up short after missing four weeks of action. I’m going to throw this veteran onto my Pick 3 tickets.

Race 3

(8) ICE MACHINE has a steady qualifying tab to prepare for his 2012 debut after missing six months of battle. His latest morning effort was much faster than the prior attempts, leading me to believe he is ready. (3) ARMBRO CASINO returns from a December vacation at a reduced level. 10-year-old knows how to win and does tend to step up when he drops down. (5) SUSQUEHANNA BELLE trotted home willingly while barely asked last time. (1) MASSIVE DRAMA chased a decent foe in her qualifier.

Race 4

(5) SUMMER HOPE gets the class relief she really needs right now. I’m a bit leery because her form is clearly absent, but I think she is likely to show enough to be right there with this group. (9) STACKED DECK raced well last time from way back and now adds Tetrick. (2) SHORTEST DISTANCE should leave a bit and sit a good trip.

Race 5

(6) PROUD MOMENT is very sharp right now and really had no chance after chasing slow fractions last week. (4) SO YOU DE VIE was racing very well in November and did qualified back nicely. (9) AISLING won’t be able to steal the race like he did last time. (2) MANNINGLY added hobbles in his qualifier and raced well. Will they make a difference? (5) LIVE JAZZ has some ability and does get Tetrick.

Race 6

(1) HIGHER AND HIGHER had an awesome year in 2011 and came back from a brief freshening with another win. For me, she stands out here. (6) GINGER AND FRED comes off a win at the Preferred level three weeks ago. She is the only other one I would consider on top. (4) SYMPHONY IN MOTION is a win away from $1 million in lifetime earnings.

Race 7

(6) FEELING YOU had a tough trip and was digging in pretty well when she broke last week. It looked to me that some contact might have been the cause. I’m going to stick with her. (2) JK SOUNDOFMUSIC raced evenly from an outside post following two months on the shelf. There is no reason to think she can’t show more now. (1) CROWN LADY comes off a pretty good outside post effort of her own. (4) SAVE MY SHARK has burned enough of my money.

Race 8

(3) NOTORIUS BLUESTONE had no shot last time from post 10. Normally I would be concerned with him having another three week layoff, but a lot of horses are sporting similar gaps due to congested entry boxes. (6) ZUMBA MOUSE has always shown ability; clear threat. (2) BOOKEM qualified in fine fashion.

Race 9

(7) HEZ DA MAN N rallied very nicely with no chance two weeks ago. This veteran seemed to enjoy the added distance. Now we add Sears in the bike and I’m certainly on board. (8) TEARFUL REUNION beat my top choice by open lengths last time, but he did have clearance much sooner and was able to get away from the field. (6) ESCAPE ATTACK almost got home for me at big odds last week. Maybe with better cover he can get a rare win. (3) RATHBONE N put in a good effort considering he hadn’t been in a pari-mutuel race since August; more now? (12) MATTADOR D won the marathon last week.

Race 10

(10) DRAGON PRINCESS drops back down in class but draws post 10. The fact remains she is as fast as any in here. Plus, she adds Lasix. (4) JUST A GLIMPSE rallied pretty well from a tough spot last time. (9) COTTON CANDY was facing much better when last seen on the track. (2) SOUTHWEST and (3) CAMS MONET are both riding winning streaks.

Race 11

(4) MCARDLES STAR gets a major driver switch to Sears and seems worth a shot. (2) VILLAGE RHYTHM scored last time at this level. (5) VINTAGE FENOM steps up off a solid effort. (8) ALLAMERICAN MAJOR wasn’t going anywhere from post 10 last time. He moves in a couple of slots tonight and does make his second start in two months.
