Meadowlands Analysis: Friday 1/20/12

MEET STATS: 13 - 58 / $163.20

Best Bet: PAY ATTENTION JACK (2ND);  Spot Play: ESCAPE ATTACK

Race 1

(5) FRANKTHEBANK moves into a new barn and does have quite a bit of class. I'm going to roll the dice and hope for a form reversal. (3) HAGI should get an easier lead this week and doesn't appear to have too many other early speed types. (9) OL MAN RIVER will be charging late. Miller chose here over three others. (6) TYREE would have been worth consideration on top for a $15k tag; not $20k.

Race 2

(5) PAY ATTENTION was facing better at Yonkers and the two qualifiers should have her tight enough. There really are not many standouts in here. (3) BAY GIRL was decent from post 10 last time and now moves inside and drops a bit. (9) GORDYYYS PET should be gunning to the front again; use, at least underneath.

Race 3

This doesn't look like the tougher division of the Clyde Hirt. (4) FALL BLISS showed some clear improvement from start one to start two at the Meadowlands. If he takes another step forward, I can see him being right there at the wire. (2) THEBESTOFJOEL raced well from an outside post in his first start back from Canada. (11) BOLERO ANDREW got a win in round one action, but must overcome the second tier now. (1) BRISTLE RIDGE BOB draws better; that should help.

Race 4

(3) SAVE MY SHARK was used to the front from post 10 and dug in nicely. The move inside should make a big difference. (7) FEELING YOU had the right to be a bit short after missing three weeks before her last start. Now she drops down and should show more. (2) SHESA BRAGN DRAGON could be the forgotten mare in here. With a smooth trip, 5-year-old is fast enough to score at a price. (6) JOLTING KATE came into her own at the end of her 3yo season and appears to have some talent.

Race 5

(8) CAM B ZIPPER made a costly stretch break in leg one but got himself together quickly and saved second. Trainer Daley will adjust the hobbles this week. There is nothing like sharp horses with speed. (7) SPECIAL T ROCKS has won four straight and deserves plenty of respect. That said, I'm not running to the windows for this guy. (6) CRUZINWITHDABIGDOG wasn't bad in his Burke barn debut. Perhaps we see more tonight? (1) HOLD YOUR HAT took a shot and tired after the first over journey last time. I can see him winning with a better trip.(12) MACH MY WORD & (11) REAL FLIGHT are obvious contenders for the PJ Fraley barn.

Race 6

(3) UP FRONT CRUISER was used hard on the engine last week. After that speed-tightner, this lady should be ready for a better effort. (7) SO FEMININE won at this level last time. (9) ROYAL FORTUNE is versatile and sharp; post hurts. (4) SAND PLEASURE figures to get a piece.

Race 7

(8) MICKEY HANOVER posted a good mile on the engine to be third last week. One of these may step up tonight, but he remains the one to beat in my book. (5) JOE DE FINO rallied nicely in his first start since 2010. Clearly he could step forward tonight. (3) SONIC DANCER was just purchased on Monday for $135k. I can see this guy winning a series but let's give him a start first, right?

Race 8

(7) JEANIE MARIE doesn't knock your socks off but puts in a steady mile every week. She has a couple of seconds here over the past two years and this looks like a decent spot for her if Kakaley can work out a trip. (9) BANK PRESIDENT hails from a barn that has started the meet off hot. (2) LIGHTNING LADY is an interesting shipper. Sometimes these Michigan horses do well here. (4) SOUTH JERSEY FLASH gets a barn change.

Race 9

(12) ESCAPE ATTACK might be the first 30-1 ML horse I have every picked with any confidence. Check out that 1:53.4 winning time from last year at Pocono. That alone ranks him as one of the faster ones in here. Veteran returned from a long layoff with a toss out mile from post eight at Monticello and now should be ready for more. (4) HOT COWBOY double drops in class. Will he like the distance? (10) ETERNAL OVERDRIVE is being sent out by a hot hand.  (11) RADAR DETECTOR was racing pretty well at Chester.

Race 10

(5) PROUD MOMENT scored off the bench and should be in a good spot again. (2) AISLING drops back down. This veteran does his best work with class relief. (1) CAMERON CHIP has been racing well but probably faces the toughest field he has seen lately. (6) COOL COLBY is hard to knock.

Race 11

(3) THE LIFE BOAT was a bit better last time. I've seen Tetrick win with worse horses. (2) LAGUNA BEACH was in fine form one month ago. Did the layoff help or hurt him? (5) IM SO BLUE moves into the Burke barn.
