Meadow Saffron sharp for Casino

Email

Meadow Saffron turns back in distance when she faces nine other fillies and mares in the $75,000 Indiana Live! Casino over a mile of turf Wednesday evening at Indiana Downs.

Trained by Fred Seitz, Meadow Saffron comes into the race off a third in the Grade 2 Nassau over the turf at Woodbine on May 30. That race was at 1 1/16 miles. Meadow Saffron led briefly in the stretch but tired over a course labeled good, and was beaten 3 3/4 lengths.

Prior to that race, Meadow Saffron won an allowance race by three lengths at Keeneland on April 4, leading every step of the way.

The 4-year-old daughter of Military signaled her readiness for this race with a best of 22 work of five furlongs in 1:00 on Saturday at Keeneland. Leandro Goncalves will ride.

Love to Tell is the only other runner to come into the Casino off a graded stakes placing. The 4-year-old ran third in the Grade 3 Ouija Board at Lone Star Park on May 25 and was beaten 1 1/2 lengths in the one-mile event. Prior to that race, Love to Tell ran third in the $50,000 Irving Distaff going 7 1/2 furlongs over the Lone Star turf course.

Love to Tell's last victory came in the $125,000 Bayou Handicap at Fair Grounds, going 1 1/8 miles on Feb. 21. Chris Landeros will ship in from Lone Star to ride.

Trained by Mike Burgess, Love to Tell also had a bullet work, going five furlongs in 1:00 at Louisiana Downs last Wednesday.

The others in the field are Happiness Is, Peinture Fraiche, Final Refrain, Hungry Tigress, Please Call Me, Urtheloveofmylife, Ciao, and Snicklebritches.
