Meadow Magic tops field of nine for Mackinac Handicap

Meadow Magic, winner of the July 31 Dowling Stakes at Pinnacle Race Course, will have to shoulder high weight of 122 pounds when he faces eight rivals, including two James Jackson-trained stablemates, in the $50,000 Mackinac Handicap at Pinnacle Race Course. The Mackinac, at 1 1/16 miles, is for Michigan-bred 3-year-old colts and geldings and will go as the eighth race.

Leading rider Tommy Molina gets the mount on Meadow Magic, who was third in his last start, an Aug. 17 allowance race at Presque Isle Downs. Meadow Magic has 2 wins and 2 thirds from 4 starts this year.

Meadow Magic is not the only accomplished member of the Jackson-trained trio. Jackson, second in the standings at this suburban Detroit track, has also entered Michigan Sire Stakes and Lansing Stakes winner Hour by Hour, as well as Dream Victory, who has won his last two starts, though both were against lower-level claimers.

Secrets Only is one of two entrants from the barn of leading trainer Robert Gorham. Second in the Lansing, he ran an off race in the Dowling, but came back with a vengeance in an Aug. 8 allowance race, winning by nearly nine lengths. Gorham has also entered Wiley Potts.

Power of Titus, weighted second at 118 pounds, has been second in his last two starts, including the Dowling Stakes. He gets a new rider in Octavio Bernal.
