McKinney takes Bayakoa Stakes

McKinney ($5.00) rallies to win the the $50,0000 Bayakoa Stakes at Oaklawn Park on Saturday.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark - McKinney rallied past the leaders in the final furlong for a length and a quarter win over Majority Whip in the $50,0000 Bayakoa Stakes at Oaklawn Park on Saturday.

It was another half-length back in third to pacesetter Red n'Gold.

McKinney($5) settled in third behind 4-5 favorite Red n'Gold, who led through fractions of 24.50 for the opening quarter and 48.56 for the half while Majority Whip raced in second. McKinney rallied through the stretch, and covered the mile and a sixteenth for fillies and mares over a fast track in 1:44.35.

Carlos Marquez, Jr., rode the winner for trainer Steve Asmussen.

McKinney earned $30,000 for the win, which improved her record to 13 wins from 31 starts for earnings of $269,740. She races for Nelson Bunker Hunt.

The field for the Bayakoa field was reduced to four horses after the scratches of For Honor and Mimi's Tizzy, and as a result, there was no show or trifecta wagering.
