Maysville Slew to DeBartolo

Email

Maysville Slew, who won a turf allowance two weeks ago at Remington Park in his first start since taking the $200,000 Dallas Turf Cup in June, will now be pointed for the $125,000 Edward J. DeBartolo Memorial Breeders' Cup at Remington on Sept. 6, said his owner and trainer, C.R. Trout.

The DeBartolo will be run over 1 1/8 miles on turf, the same distance as the Dallas Turf Cup.

Maysville Slew was considered for retirement after passing the $1 million mark in earnings in the Dallas Turf Cup, but Trout said the simple life did not agree with the gelding, who is 8.

"He doesn't want to retire," he said. "We gave him three weeks off after that race and he came back full of vim and vigor. He was just eager to go."

Trout said that later this year Maysville Slew is a candidate to run in the $100,000 Texas Turf Stakes on the Breeders' Cup undercard at Lone Star Park on Oct. 30.

"He likes that track down there," said Trout. "That's probably what we'll shoot for after the DeBartolo."

Cherylville Slew, another recent stakes winner for Trout, will also make her next start at Remington. She is being pointed for the $40,000 Ricks Memorial on Sept. 5.

Following that race, Cherylville Slew could start in the $100,000 Bluebonnet Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on turf at Lone Star on Oct. 31. In the Ricks, she will be shooting for her third straight win after victories in the $50,000 Margarita Breeders' Cup at Retama Park and the $50,000 Sangue Handicap at Louisiana Downs.

"Cherylville is running through her little bridle," said Trout.

Cherylville Slew has won $305,780 in her career, and is out of a half-sister to Maysville Slew.
