Maysville Slew wins the $200,000 Dallas Turf Cup by a neck at Lone Star Park on Saturday.

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Maysville Slew became a millionaire on Saturday when he ran down Star Over the Bay in the late stages for a neck win in the $200,000 Dallas Turf Cup at Lone Star Park. Star Over the Bay finished second, 1 1/2 lengths in front of third-place finisher A to the Z.

Maysville Slew ($45.20) raced well back in the early stages, while Waupauca set fractions of 24.02 for the opening quarter and 47.70 seconds for the half-mile mark. Star Over the Bay tracked that one closely in second, overtook him midway on the turn for home, then shook off a bid from Warleigh.

Meanwhile, Maysville Slew angled to the outside of horses in the stretch and surged late for the win. He covered the mile and an eighth over firm turf in 1:49.89.

Cliff Berry rode the winner for trainer C.R. Trout, who also owns Maysville Slew.

"This old horse means so much to me and our family for what he's done through the years," said Trout.

Maysville Slew, who is a multiple stakes winner, earned $120,000 for the win, which improved his earnings to $1,007,609. Overall he has won 15 of 63 starts. He is an 8-year-old gelding and is by Slew City Slew.
