BREEDERS’ CUP CHALLENGE: Racing schedule, replays, and past winners >>
One of the early favorites for 2012 female spring classics, Maybe, the odds-on favorite, ran her record to 5 for 5 with a 1 3/4-length victory over Fire Lily, with second-choice La Collina another three lengths back in third.
Maybe, stalking the pace under jockey Joseph O’Brien, was asked for run about five-sixteenths of a mile out in the seven-furlong, right-handed race. She made the front at the quarter pole and maintained her advantage while vigorously ridden to the wire. Winning time over ground rated good was 1:24.26.
A Galileo filly bred by Epona Stud and owned by Michael Tabor, Maybe is trained by Aidan O’Brien, Joseph’s father. She recorded her third straight group stakes victory while notching her first win in a Group 1.
Cirrus des Aigles takes third straight
Cirrus des Aigles continued an excellent 2011 French campaign on Sunday, winning the Group 2 Grand Prix de Deauville by 10 lengths over the solid filly Silver Pond.
Making his eighth start of 2011, 5-year-old Cirrus des Aigles won for the third time in a row and notched his fourth victory of the year. Only two horses, Planteur and Sarafina, have finished in front of him this season.
