Master Command retired to stud

EmailLEXINGTON, Ky. - Multiple graded stakes winner and millionaire Master Command has been retired from racing to enter stud at Taylor Made Farm in Nicholasville, Ky., the farm announced Thursday.

Master Command finished fourth last out in Monmouth's Iselin Handicap on Aug. 18. Earlier this year, he won the Grade 2 New Orleans Handicap and the Grade 3 National Jockey Club and Mineshaft handicaps – the latter in stakes-record time of 1:42.28 for the 1 1/16 miles. Last season, he took the Grade 2 Meadowlands Cup and the Grade 3 William Donald Schaefer Handicap. He retires with a lifetime record of 8 wins from 17 starts and earnings of $1,137,188.

Todd Pletcher trained Master Command for owners Aaron and Marie Jones.

Betty Moran's Brushwood Stable bred Master Command in Pennsylvania. He is a 5-year-old son of A. P. Indy and the Lord at War winner Lady Lochinvar, making him a three-quarter-brother to Grade 1-placed X Star.

Master Command's fee will be announced later, according to the farm.
