Mast Track might be out of Dirt Mile again

ARCADIA, Calif. - After being out of the Breeders’ Cup, and then back in, the prospects of Mast Track competing in the $1 million Dirt Mile on Saturday at Santa Anita looked bleak on Thursday morning.

"If he’s not 100 percent, I’m not going to run him," said Bobby Frankel, who trains and owns Mast Track. "And odds are he won’t be 100 percent."

Mast Track has a quarter crack on the outside of his right front hoof. On Monday, when the quarter crack was first discovered, Frankel said Mast Track’s participation "wasn’t meant to be." But on Tuesday, Frankel entered the horse in the Dirt Mile, saying of the quarter crack, "It’s not that bad."
