Local favorite Maryquitecontrary has been transferred from her trainer of record, Joe Catanese, to Shug McGaughey with an eye on heading to Kentucky to make her next start in the Grade 1 Madison at Keeneland on April 8. Maryquitecontrary, a daughter of First Dude owned by her breeder, Rodney Lundock, has captured six of her seven starts, including both the Rampart and Grade 2 Inside Information here this winter. A perfect 6 for 6 with Luca Panici in the saddle, Maryquitecontrary paired career-high 91 Beyers in her two stakes wins, both of which came at the direct expense of Colorful Mischief. “She’s been in my barn all winter,” said McGaughey. “I’ve seen her all the time. Obviously, she’s a very nice filly and the plan right now is to take her to Kentucky for the Madison.” :: Get Gulfstream Park Clocker Reports from Mike Welsch and the Clocker Team. Available every race day.  The decision by the connections of Maryquitecontrary to skip Saturday’s Grade 3 Hurricane Bertie should come as a bit of relief to Colorful Mischief, who is among the six fillies entered in the 6 1/2-furlong dash. Still, she will find herself up against perhaps an even more formidable foe in the speedy Frank’s Rockette, who exits an eye-catching 12 1/4-length triumph here in the Grade 3 Sugar Swirl in her 2022 finale. ◗ Sunday’s mandatory payout of the 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot pool yielded a payoff of $40,357.56. The pool began with a $1.36 million carryover and generated nearly $5.3 million in new wagers. Favorites were blanked in all six legs of the series, with the winners ranging in price from the 5-2 Howe Street in the featured 10th race to 7-1 for trainer Christophe Clement’s first-time starter Queen Picasso, who won the nightcap. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
