Maryland Million redrawn

Email

The Maryland Million, rescheduled for Saturday at Laurel Park, drew 109 entrants for 12 races when it was redrawn on Wednesday, just three fewer than for the original card.

The Million card was initially scheduled for last Saturday, but it was canceled that morning when 7 1/2 inches of rain fell at Laurel Park. At the time, 112 horses had been entered for the 12 races, which carry total purses of $1.5 million and are restricted to the offspring of Maryland sires.

The only race hard-hit by the rescheduling was the $125,000 Lassie Stakes, which was reduced to a field of eight. Last week, the race drew a field of 10. The race lost Good Conduct, who was 2-1 on the morning line last week, and the longshot Northern Disco.

The Classic field remains intact with seven horses, led by defending champion Presidentialaffair, the 8-5 morning line favorite.

The Ladies, a nine-furlong turf race for fillies and mares, grew to nine with the additions of Kayla's Smile and Mrs. Doyle.
