Martin, jockey, facing charges

The stewards at Prairie Meadows have suspended Quarter Horse jockey Jacky Martin pending the outcome of criminal charges against him in his home state of Texas.

Martin, 52, is awaiting trial on charges from 2006 of possession of a controlled substance, taking wildlife resources without consent, and retrieval and waste of game.

Martin has won Quarter Horse racing's premier event, the All American Futurity, a record seven times. Martin, who last rode Dec. 29 at Sunland, won 60 races from 410 mounts last year. His mounts have earned in excess of $1.7 million, placing Martin 11th in earnings among Quarter Horse riders last year.
