Marquis Downs stakes races rescheduled

Rain washed out most of last weekend's racing at Marquis Downs, necessitating the rescheduling of several stakes races and prompting the addition of a Thursday, Sept. 3 card.

Six Heritage stakes races for Saskatchewan-breds were on tap last weekend, with two $10,000 races carded for last Friday and four $20,000 races for Saturday.

But only one stakes was run as Dark Ages won the Horizon Heritage for fillies and mares before Friday's evening program was cut short after five races due to heavy rainfall, which knocked out a bank of lights.

The rains continued Saturday, rendering the track unsafe for racing.

The remaining Heritage Stakes will be run over three days, with the $10,000 Horizon for older colts and geldings and the $20,000 Shortgrass for 3-year-old colts and geldings going Friday.

The $20,000 Western for 2-year-old colts and geldings and the $20,000 Woodland for 2-year-old fillies will be run Saturday.

The $20,000 Parkland for 3-year-old fillies will be run Sept. 4.

The $25,000 Prairie Lily, for 2-year-old graduates of the local sale, was originally scheduled for Aug. 29 but now will be run the following Saturday, Sept. 5.
