Mare in foal brings $55,000 to top Louisiana sale

Love You Crazy, a Touch Gold mare believed to be in foal to Uncle Mo, brought $55,000 to top the Equine Sales Co. of Louisiana yearling and mixed sale on Sunday in Opelousas, La.

Equine Sales Co. reported 128 horses sold for a total of $418,000. The average was $3,266. There were 190 horses offered, with 62 who did not sell, for a buyback rate of 32.6 percent. Last year, 92 of 122 horses offered sold for a total of $579,900. The average was $6,303.

“Considering the local economy with depressed oil prices and what has been going on in the marketplace of late, I thought we had a decent sale,” said Foster Bridewell, sales director for Equine Sales Co. of Louisiana.

Chris and Lynne Boutte purchased the sales-topping mare from Roger Daly, agent. Daly was the top consignor, selling two horses for a total of $80,000.

The leading buyer was Asmussen Horse Center, with 10 purchases for a total of $93,000.

The Equine Sales Co. has completed its auction calendar for this year, with the next sale on deck for 2-year-olds in training in 2016.
